Post Please pray for Ahok Link
Several years ago, before we left Indonesia for the US, my wife got a prophecy that the Lord would begin to raise up Christian leaders in Indonesia. Several years back, we heard about Ahok, a Chinese man who was running for governor. My wife and I actually got a chance to meet his sister at a transformations conference in Hawaii. Their family are Christians. One year, his brother, also a governor, spoke at the conference.

My wife said the Lord told her he'd be president. This woman has a rather lengthy (Indonesian language) testimony of her prophecies for Ahok and the calling he believes the Lord gave him. She met him and ate at some cheap peanut salad place with him, and that night she said the Lord told her that he was a candidate for the leader of the country. She asked for a few signs, and told the testimony about that.

She called him. He said to call him on his cell phone. Then he asked her what the Lord had told her about him. She told him and she said he told her that she was the third person to tell him that, and laid out how the Lord had spoken to him that he was to be bupati, governor, then president.

After he left a political party because he believed the Lord told him to, and did the seemingly politically impossible thing of going independent, she also said she told him to find out who Jokowi was. They became political allies and Jokowi is now president. Ahok has Jokowi's former job of Jakarta governor.

Ahok has been accused of blaspheming the Mus|im's religious book. Some of their leaders were saying Mus|ims should not vote for him because of Al_madina 51. Ahok said said at a campaign event not to be fooled with Al_madina 51. His political enemies accused him of violating the law by blaspheming their book. Many thousands of men, mostly wearing white, marched all over the city. Companies let people out of work early in case there was some kind of unrest or bad traffic jams. Most of it was peaceful, but crowds got too close to the presidential palace and the police launched tear gas. Some rioters burnt cars and did some looting in the wee hours of the morning, but that may well have been opportunists who were not a part of the protest. The protestors did apparently leave behind a lot of trash in parts of the city.

It was just decided that Ahok would stand trial for blasphemy. These laws are applied one way. Those folks can say all kinds of stuff against the truth and get away with it, but apply the same law to prosecute Ahok over basically nothing. This may be a political decision by the government to take the steam out of the movement to have another large protest.

In spite of the blasphemy allegations, ask just about anyone in Jakarta about Ahok, and they'll say he's good. They like Ahok and Jokowi. Both are trying to eliminate corruption. I might venture to guess that Ahok is more popular in Jakarta than even Jokowi. People see the progress of the development and things he's done. Together, they have gotten rid of a lot of red tape and have really worked at reducing bribes.

One Mus|im told me that the people of Jakarta would be foolish not to re-elect Ahok next time. He said later on, they can get a Mus|im leader some other time. Governor is a two term office anyway. I liked hearing this, that a Christian ruler is so competent, hard working, and honest, the unbelievers can't resist voting for him.

This verse comes to mind.
Proverbs 29:2
When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.

And this,
Matthew 5:10
10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Anyway, help me pray for Ahok that he will be found not guilty and continue to rise.
