I have a story about the great Herman Cain to share with you. First, my connection with him is that his niece married my nephew. So, we share nieces and nephews. Because of that connection, I was able to set up a lunch meeting with him and my friend, Alan Riley to discuss streaming media for his radio show. We met at Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen in Smyrna, Georgia. This was in 2009.
We had a good time taking to Herman as he was a radio talk show host here in Atlanta and loved talking about politics. So, I asked him the question. Mr Cain, who do you think can beat Barack Obama in the next election. He responded “only one man can.†So, Alan and I begin guessing and asking him about certain politicians and he replied “no†to each one. So, I asked him. Who do you think can beat him. Herman, with no hesitation said “you’re looking at him.†Alan and I didn’t know how to react. Do we laugh? I mean, nobody has ever told me that before. But Herman was dead serious and announced his candidacy. He even had the lead at one time touting his 999 program. That and his wonderful charismatic personality almost worked. He was railroaded and falsely accused of some things and didn’t want to drag his family into it, so he left the presidential run. He loved his family and his God more than politics.
If you ever get some time, read his biography. He came from a mighty long way to be very successful. God bless the Cain family! |
