There was a good article this morning about why the establishment really hates Cruz, and how Rubio fills those voids for them.

He carries no baggage from the Bush administration, and will not invite the Weekly Standard’s Bill Kristol or Fox News’ Charles Krauthammer to draft an inaugural address, as did Bush in 2004. He won the Iowa caucuses by building the strongest grass-roots network in the country (he claims to have a campaign chairman in every county of the United States), which makes him independent of the party apparatus, such as it is.
Endearing, boyish, photogenic and eloquent, Marco Rubio is the candidate that Central Casting sent the Establishment from the studio pool. Rubio, a middling student at university and a Florida machine politician throughout his career, says his lines well but does not have an original thought about foreign policy. That is why the Establishment likes him. Cruz knows that the Establishment is naked, and is willing to say so. That’s why they don’t like him. They aren’t supposed to. They look at him the way a rice bowl looks at a hammer. |

Nicely written and exactly how I see it too. Rubio is a useful tool. Cruz is his own man. Cruz is not Reagan, but his independence of thought is the closest thing we'll see in most of our lifetimes. I'm afraid that the writing is on the wall though. Reagan benefited from the fact that the natural conservatives in the democratic party had not heard the message they needed to hear to finally leave it, there are none left there and since then the GOP has become more and more big-government, neo-con, spendaholics who would rather go along with the other side than to kill their cash cows in the insurance industry (among others). They may pay lip-service to Reagan, but they'd turn him out just like they tried to in 1980, and just like they are trying to do with Cruz today. |

This is all good stuff to know and consider...
I had a thought this morning that concerns me for our options this year. After the blood bath that is about to ensue, will we have a candidate unsoiled and unbloodied enough to be electable?
This has to be making the Dems very happy as they see the Republican field devour itself. I'm concerned that our final solution will be a neutered one.

The Dems are fairing no better although the media will spin it as though they are. They are doing so badly that an elderly, white, Independent, Socialist who hasn't been a Democrat in years is ahead of their establishment's anointed one in New Hampshire and running close in all national polls. If Joe Biden had ran, there would be no contest in that race, Hillary is NOT as well liked as everyone thinks. |

| Rush said yesterday that there is a difference between being a part of the establishment, and being someone who the establishment can accept and support. He says that Rubio is nothing but a legitimate conservative and is not a member of the establishment. On the gang of 8, he said no one is pure, no one is perfect. He likes Rubio alot. |
