No, I don't know the answer. Interested in seeing what you all think. |

To my understanding, freedom to choose is essential to personhood. That said, the angels which remain in Heaven quite obviously do not sin. I believe they choose holiness over sin continually. Their character is so established in holiness as to be perfectly steadfast and dependable. This is much the same as Jesus choosing to never sin, but nevertheless being capable of being tempted.
Some theologians deny that angels still retain their moral freedom since Satan and the angels who fell were cast out. But if they have no freedom, it is not evident how they can be either holy or sinful; they would be mere automatons if they could not help but choose holiness over sin. Further, we have no reason to believe that these holy angels somehow lost their freedom to choose when Satan rebelled. The simplest explanation would be that just as they chose all along to be holy and not rebel, so do they continue evermore to choose.

Thanks. It is a very good question, one which I have wrestled with myself. I know not everyone will agree with how I see this. |

I would think so. They have 2 things going for them:
1. They've seen the end result of rebellion.
2. They don't have a sinful, weak, corrupt human body to contend with. _________________ I'm not saved because I'm good. I'm saved because He's good!

Today we mostly use the term Tempt specifically to mean to “solicit to do evil.” However, the term has not always been quite so narrowly interpreted. In the Bible this word conveys that idea at times, but at other times it means to “put to the test.”
Was Jesus' temptation a “solicit to do evil” or was he “put to the test”? |

In looking at His temptation by the Devil wilderness, certainly it was a test. Nevertheless, it is hard to see any really substantive difference between testing and tempting in this case, or in any other for that matter. He was tested regarding faithfulness to His Father.
Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. 18For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted. Heb 2:17-18 ESV
For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Heb. 4:15 ESV |
