Post Church names Musicman4him
"Church with the Roar" in Panama City Beach Florida. I don't think it's there anymore, but had a huge billboad sign with a Giant Lion that read "roaring with righeousness". Obviously was referring to the Lion of Judah.
Can you imagine the non christians that read this thinking it was a church that worshipped Simba.

Also near Oneonta, Al there is a church called "The Burning Bush Church"

I've never liked the name "Church of God of Prophecy" and found it to be a problem. The best thing the leaders of that church could do is move out of Cleveland, TN and change the name. This is especially true since the denomination is trying to do a "paradigm shift" away from who they were. The name itsself, besides being uninviting, is a misnomer. From my experience there is very little of the "prophetic" in either a strategic direction for the denomination or an operational manifestation in the local congergations. However, I see this trend in many denominations and independents. The the goal seems to be, in many cases, to become the "Generic Church of Fellowship and Friendliness."

PS I know its a "fun" thread on names, but really how can you look at the the name "Church of God of Prophecy" without either a question or a smile.

At one time it had meaning because they truly believed themselves to be the Church of God prophesied in the scripture that would be reestablished. They believed they were the one true Church of God of prophecy (revealed in prophecy) established on the earth. When I was a teenager and was first filled with the Holy Spirit I remember running across their name in the Yellow Pages and at that time I thought they were a church that put great emphasis on the gift of prophecy and prophetic utterance in their services. So it's a total misnomer now because they no longer believe themselves to be the prophesied revealed exclusive church. Those that hold to that formed odd little splinter groups.
