Genesis 12:1. "The Lord had said to Abram, 'Go from your country, your people and your father's household to the land I will show you...' " vs4. So Abram went, as the Lord had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he set out from Harran.
Abraham was 75 when and his family moved our of Harran, but in Genesis 12:1, notice the words "The Lord had said to Abram..." How long had it been from the time God "had said 'Go' " and the time when Abram moved?
I'm not aware of Scripture telling how long it was from the time God spoke until the actual move out of Haran was made. It seems that when Abram left Haran, he took most of his belongings and also some relatives. He didn't just fill up a backpack. He made provision for the journey.
How long was it between the time God spoke to you, and the time when you obeyed?
THE SERMON in this is, if God has ever spoken something specific that He wants us to do, even if His speaking to us happened years ago, we should get to doing what He said. Even if it was 10, 20 or 30 years ago when God "had said," we cannot reach our highest purpose in life until we do what He said.
It is time to actively begin preparing for the journey it will take to carry out what God said. It is not too late to obey. The richest man on this planet who has not done what God told him to do, has not reached his highest purpose.
