This here. In the Hebrew, it means "not a pasture". The image I get in my head is one of a fruitless, barren desert. There is no sustenance.

I think that's a great picture of what living in fear is. We retreat into isolation, and we get stuck in a place of barrenness.

Good stuff! One of my favorite stories.

The word "Lo-Debar" only appears 3 times, twice in chapter 9, once in 17. In 17, David was running from Absolom. Machir son of Ammiel from Lo-Debar came with a couple others bringing goods and food. Perhaps a message is in there, as well. God can bring blessing out of barrenness.
