Pastor Appreciation |
jeremiah2911_4me |
So I am not trying to sound petty or ungrateful........
but do you guys/gals preach your own Pastor Appreciation day???
I am so thankful to be at a church where they want to honor me. . .never had that before. . . but they expect me to preach like any other Sunday.
I grew up in the COG and it was always a special day for our pastor. I'm not saying I want the money pinned to my coat etc etc etc but it'd be nice to get more than just an extra check and then I preach...lol
I really don't mean to sound ungrateful.
Just wondering what your churches do for you? I have a lady planning a program this year - and she has literally caught HECK from some of the older members.
She has been told everything from WE HAVE NEVER HAD A PROGRAM to HE ONLY WORKS ONE DAY A WEEK ANYWAY WHY DOES HE NOT NEED TO PREACH??
My secretary (who is awesome 96% of the time) is the ring leader it seems. She told me in no uncertain terms in order to pacify everyone I need to preach at least 15-20 minutes....
So I have decided after whatever they have planned to have communion.... _________________ Pastor Mike

I preach my own pastor appreciation day, but it's by ma own choice. But I don't preach a sermon on the subject, I just preach a normal sermon. |

Folks, I can't empathize, what with not bein a pastor maself, contrary to what OTCP says Chief Charging Battery told him, but I do feel led to share a little joke that my friend Jim once told at one of the Pastor Appreciation Days at my church.
"After eating an entire bull, a mountain lion felt so good he started roaring. - A hunter came along and shot him. The moral: When you're full of bull, keep your mouth shut."
Just give some thought to why that was so apropos. |

I think it sometimes depends on the size of the church. In the smaller churches, it tends to be scaled down and not every church has a special speaker. It also tends to be whatever is the tradition of that church to honor their pastor.
Hey, if they want to honor you and give you extra money, you're blessed. _________________ "More of Him...less of me."

At one of my former churches, I had to do the books as well as pastor because nobody wanted to be the clerk. Over time, I began to notice that on Pastor Appreciation, my birthday, and on Christmas (even though I never asked for anything special to be done, and at least at that church actually came to wish that nothing 'special' for me ever be done again), the regular tithes and offerings for that particular week was always off by about as much as they gave me in the special offering, which was always an amount less than $100. Since it was a small struggling church and I was bivocational, (keeping the church bills paid by my secular job basically) I generally still got to contribute towards the church bills with my 'special offering'. Thankfully we are no longer in such a situation as that.
I would say that if your special offering doesn't negatively impact the normal tithes and offering, count yourself blessed, pastor! |

Is when the church has a dinner, everyone leaves, and you're left to clean the fellowship hall and take out the garbage. _________________ Doctor of Bovinamodulation |

We Have Pastor Appreciation Once Every Ten Years - But... |
FG Minister |
I only allow Pastor Appreciation once every decade because I don't want to hear about my wonderful self! However, the church does give me two weeks extra salary in October of each year for Pastor Appreciation. So for nine years it is never mentioned, then on the 10th year I give them ten minutes to say nice things. I preach when they are done. (We had one in year one, year ten, and next year is year 20). |

Seriously though, I personally don't like PAD.
I feel most of the time it is forced and people feel they "have" to do something. |

I preached last year and it was a great time. I preached on the thought There Is Still Work to Do - had a great turnout and service if i recall... _________________ Pastor Mike

That was my next line of thinking. . . I'd much rather preach than have people say things they don't mean or want to say...
Because as much as I'd like to think everyone LOVES me unconditionally, well I do know they might not LOL _________________ Pastor Mike
