I visited our home church this morning, Tift Ave COG, Tifton Ga. We left that church 40 years ago last month to begin our pastoral ministry.
At that time that church had about 200 in their morning worship. Today I only saw 6 that I recognized that was there when we left. There may have been some I did not recognize. Some of the children that were then may have become adults and stayed. Or some I simply did not recognize.
The service was good. The pastor, (Kevin Dawson) preached what I consider, an above average sermon and I enjoyed the worship.
When we left there were many there that was related to my wife. (She did not know most of them because she was not raised in Tifton). Today there was only one that I recognized from her family. Most that I knew have gone to heaven.
Oh, how things change. I was 25 when I left. I had a head full of dark hair, I was tall and slim and full of energy. Now I am 65, very little hair, not quite as slim and not as much energy but I do OK for an old goat. But I am blessed with good health, at least at my age.
I sat behind retired ministers, Robert and Joan Sorrow. They celebrated their 61 anniversary yesterday. They sure did not look like they were old enough to have been married that long. Robert looked good and said he is doing well. To God be the glory. _________________ Recorded Sermons @ www.pastorwiley.com
