Post Bro Bob
I had to take a break from acts-celerate.

The main reason was I found myself being pulled into just the argument approach to what should have been discussions. It was actually focusing my head unhealthily.

I got rid of the bookmark, and it was hard at first to not just pop in to read stuff.

Then my wife was in an accident 2 years ago yesterday. She lost her left leg above the knee, and two thirds of her small intestine. The lady driving the other car died on the bridge that night.

Two months later our first grandbaby arrived, and having sold their house and building the new one, my daughter and son-in-law were living with us.

Life happened.

I went for more than a year without making a post. If anyone noticed, I couldn't say.

In that same period several of the folks I enjoyed conversing with here also took leave.

..........................

There were days a while before all that where things were really moving in the CoG at the upper level which were impacting the body in total. Some of that was good stuff. Some of it I didn't agree with. Some of it went the way I had hoped and some of it didn't.

Some of my better acts friends were of different views than me. I think there was some damage.

I really hate the loss of Kevin Wallace. I hated the loss of Jerry Lawson.

And the departure of Tom Sterbens in the last few days from acts in a very strange way where all his posts have disappeared is disturbing to me.

..........................

We are warned in scripture of a dire thing in the last days. We are told there will be a great falling away. Analytical Bob, correctly I think, saw that as another proof of the fallacy of high Calvinism. How can there be a great falling away if it is impossible to fall away to begin with?

But it is possible that this "falling away" might be initiated by divisions in the body that do not always lead to denial of Christ. It might be that the brethren of faith find it harder and harder to agree on anything. And divided, then, they lose the power they had to withstand the true enemy that they enjoyed as a group. If and when that happens, it can only assist a complete falling away from the faith in the body at large.

There are some among us who are not at all of us. They are not brethren. They rejoice in the divisions they create. They are glad Kevin is gone, they are glad Jerry is gone. They are glad Tom is gone.

I think the acts-celerate falling away is based on more than any one thing, but that last one is a big chunk of it. While we were asleep, the enemy came in and sowed tares among the wheat.

.......................

I don't know how many days I have left. I want the bulk of them to be spent encouraging the brethren. If my posts cannot encourage, heal, strengthen, bind up, anoint... then I need to be about some other business.

Of course we missed you, but I thought it was the normal process. many folk just switch or go to Face book etc.

So sorry to hear about your wife, but glad you took time to post and I did notice on another thread.
Acts is not useless, methinks.
Prayers yourway my brother. Smile

I noticed, Bro Bob. Sometimes I don't realize someone is gone till I see a post from them again or their name elsewhere (like on FB.) I'm not here as much anymore, either.

I agree with a lot of your previous post. I do not rejoice in division and hate it when people leave.

I saw one of Tom's posts on one of the threads. Maybe it is only the posts he originated that have disappeared. Sad...

I've been here since 2009. Introduced to this site by Travis Johnson. I enjoyed it before Facebook became ubiquitous and the The Excellent Pastor page was set up, and I moved over there.

From my perspective, things started going downhill when events leading to the creation of the Signature Series was introduced. We lost a lot of people then like DAWG, whose posts I really enjoyed and others.

In part, Actscelerate is simply becoming a victim of changes in technology which are unavoidable.

In 1997 Yahoo Groups was pretty big and I found one for my wife to participate in "The Yahoo Pastor's Wives Group". She joined and eventually became an admin on that group. They never got huge but they did have a good number of Pastor's Wives from a cross-section of denominations. Eventually people started moving over to Facebook and the Yahoo group came into disuse.

Post It's not you - it's me. Pastor Nations
A combination of my personal experiences with COG, and the ability to post behind a pen name is a bad combination for me.

As I said in another thread:

The classic break-up line is true here.

"It's not you - it's me"

I know I won't be missed, but I'm gone, too.

A friend of mine, teaching us about prayer, said, "Each one brings a supply. And as each one brings a supply, so they are stronger together, and when one is missing, the supply is not as strong."

And so it is with this place. Together, we are more - or can be. And we diminish a bit each time we lose one.

I guess in some ways, it really does take a village. Not to raise a child but this has been our village. I have wondered in recent years why I stay here since the posts often annoy or disturb me. I guess it is because I hope that my voice in this village sometimes makes a difference.

I am sad to see our friends leaving one by one. Sad I don't think Acts is useless but it's no longer as relevant or effective as it once was.

This certainly isn't unique to this forum. The Facebook groups are the exact same way: if you post a prayer request, a praise report of a great service, or a genuine question regarding a (non-confrontational) scripture, you get little to no response. You have to hit one of the "hot topics" for your post to gain any traction.

That's the way people are, even the "holier than thou".

I have not read the comments to your post.

I only have one question. If this board is useless, why are you here?

Perhaps it would have been better stated as a heading -- has "become" useless.

Its usefulness as a forum for COG pastors/leaders seems to have passed. I found it helpful and insightful for many years as a reader only.

Never started posting till a year ago --- had concerns for doctrinal erosion at PTS/Lee. Thats what brought me to post comments. Responses were helpful and thoughtful -- mostly.

Many of the comments on this thread seem to support this conclusion as well as those who have left this venue.

You can see from my original post -- most just "beat me up" and couldn't address frustration w forum in any thoughtful manner -- read the first five or six responses to my initial post --->>> essentially "why you here, leave Charlie, don't let the door hit ya on way out, blah blah blah....etc." LOL

Only Tom threw me a bone by calling my comments "legitimate" concerns --- thanks Tom.

I do check in periodically to see whats happening as it has become my habit for years. Sometimes in our wide COG family only place to find some "news" of whats happening.

Only responding now to your question, Larry.

Yes, I did miss you on the forum.
I'm so sorry to hear about your wife's accident.
Congrats on the grandbaby!
