Williamsburg Church reccommend (Update) |
Cojak |
)Our 'VACATION' and a need for tires, has brought us to Williamsburg. We now have the tires but are wondering about church this weekend.
Since our week is 6 Saturdays and one Sunday it is sometimes hard to keep up.
Thanks in advance if you have a recommendation. _________________ Some facts but mostly just my opinion!

I'm guessing you're still in VA. Down the road in Newport News is the church I was pastor of in the 1990s. "All Nation's Church" is at the intersection of 17 (J. Clyde Morris Blvd) and I-64. When I was pastor it was called "Lakeside Church and Family Life Center". They tell me now that Bobby Collins is retired from Denbigh Church of God (not sure what the name is now) he visits All Nations quite often.

PS Easy on/off interstate and large parking lot for camper. |

If you stay around Newport News you might try the Mariner's Museum, its not far from the church. Also, Yorktown is just up the road and its worth a visit as well. Look for the Thomas Nelson house. Great story of a patriot.

Well Time settled our Sunday Worship service. WE were planning to head south to New Port News and The All Nations Church which is about 40 miles from our camp site. Mama found a small Assembly of God just 4 miles away so after sleeping late we headed there. I am still surprised that there is no COG listed (that I can find) in the small towns and communities in this area. To be honest with the new church names it is possible to miss one.
Very welcoming church. David Gibson is the pastor. Sort of a welcome throwback to our early COG days. Very good testimonies from the congregations and of course some praise songs we were not familiar with, but it all worked for us. We seem to drop in many times at communion, we were especially blessed this AM. All in all I was glad I could hear a good bit of the sermon.
Anyway, I still want to thank the Forum and especially Mat this time, for the help in a church search, at each of our stops on THIS VACATION. LOL
WE do hope to get down to Newport News next week to the places Mat recommended. However the Traffic has been bumper to bumper on I-64 due to construction. _________________ Some facts but mostly just my opinion!

We took Mat's advice and went to the Mariners Museum. As a sailor now anyway I loved it and learned a lot.
We also found the All Nations Church. What a great location and plant. Mama says we will make it down next weekend.
Thanks again, especially Mat on this go around. _________________ Some facts but mostly just my opinion!

I'm glad you enjoyed the Mariners Museum. There is so much to see and do in the Williamsburg, Jamestown and Yorktown area. There is also a NASA museum/center in downtown Hampton, plus all the sites across the river in Virginia Beach, Norfolk, etc.
As I said, I was the pastor of that church back in the 1990s when the Family Life Center was built. I could share a great deal about building next to a lake on wetlands. Those years there were the hardest and most fruitful of my ministry.

As a retired builder, you did bring a smile! BUT it is a great site, with hundreds of condo's apartments withing walking distance. WE are looking forward to worshipping there nest Sunday.
BTW on the way down we saw traffic on northbound dead stopped (accident), we measured the back up, it was over 5 miles of parking lot. OUCH, we returned north on US 60! _________________ Some facts but mostly just my opinion!

Yeah Mat, I built one church in my short ministry, since we organized it, it was more work than stress, but from knowing folk who 'expanded' in established churches, I have heard of the stress with building and keeping the church 'rolling along'. _________________ Some facts but mostly just my opinion!

When we started building (which they had been saying they wanted to for twenty years), Bobby Collins gave me some advice. He said, "when it comes to dealing with contractors, you almost have to half backslide. That's why God gave you deacons." Read in to it what you want, but I saw deacons at the top of their calling when we were building.
