1955, Luke Tucker volunteered to remodel the East Belmont COG. As he did some measurements he found out that the old building had spread 13 " at the roof line. His report:
Pastor, if we do not brace those rafters more this church will collapse in a few years.
Of course it was reinforced and still stands and is a growing Hispanic COG at present.
Fast forward to 2005. A church on the same pattern as East Belmont was for sale. My son wanted to buy it and convert it to a home. He had plans for a playhouse for his daughter in the Bell tower.. He called me two days later and said he had changed his mind. later that day I was driving by that church. I noticed a 'Wet Paint' sign on the doors. I figured someone was buying it for a church.
Ten minutes later I drove past it again and there was no church standing, the entire building had collapsed. No one was hurt, but I thought just a few days ago I had walked thru that building. hearing ideas of remodeling.
My mind went to Luke Tucker and the East Belmont COG, it would have done the same had Brother Tucker not warned the pastor of coming dangers.
Luke was a mentor of mine, a Gentle giant in a small frame who knew his business and God.
I just wanted to give a shout-out for Godly men and women who are in your churches who are not always looking for the dollar. _________________ Some facts but mostly just my opinion!
