Post Rationalize/Spiritualize Mark Ledbetter
When individuals make a decision they know will be questionable, why do they try to deflect criticism by rationalizing their decision; and even worse, in the Church world they spiritualize their decision to make it more honorable?

Further, when their spiritualizing doesn't stand the scrutiny of examination, it only serves to make the individual appear desperate to deflect the criticism they know is coming.

It is really sad. Why not own up to it? Just call it for what it is? It is an opportunity to advance to a position you'd rather have, or maybe asked/coerced/bribed to take.

Oh, well. It is what it is.

I would also add that it is done to avoid critical questions. After all, "Who are you to question God" Golf Cart Mafia Consigliere

Mankind are incredibly motivated and adept at justifying themselves. If we can cloak our choices in spiritual garb, that tends to make us feel good about ourselves. Using God as a justification for just pursuing our own selfish desires is especially common, and will one day bring righteous condemnation if never repented of. [Insert Acts Pun Here]

I'm not playing games when I write this.

I have an example but if I provide the example I would no doubt be accused of impugning the name of a "good" man. That would not be my intention but the example is from a letter written by an individual in an important position but left that position for another position.

To justify the decision a Biblical character was cited as an illustration, however, the illustration's analogy doesn't come close to making the point intended.

It was simply a spiritualization cover for a personal decision. As diakoneo suggests, perhaps it was done in an attempt to avoid critical questions.

Well, it won't matter a hundred years from now...

There was a moment a few years ago I let a certain individual's fleshly success get under my skin and I prayed about it and I was reminded of what Jesus said about individuals in similar circumstances - they are receiving their reward now.

Answered my question of why God allowed them to get away with it.

Rationalizing and spiritualizing is done to make one feel better about their actions. It is what it is. The truth is the truth. When you can't be honest with yourself, you need great spiritual help.

Some on here need great help. I will brag on Trump when he helps the poor. I will chastise him when he hurts the poor. Its as simple as that. Trump & Melanie are either saved or not. Their actions will tell us the truth.
