When the store is out of your favorite honey wheat bread, so you buy a loaf of sprouted grain whole grain bread (which has a "use by" date that is only a few days away), then you happen to be back by the store a few days later and get your favorite honey wheat bread which has been restocked.
THEN your darling spouse is checking out a new store in the area and brings home a loaf of store brand honey wheat bread.
There is room in the freezer for 1 loaf, but between the other 2 loaves, at least one is redundant.

Redundancy is when you have a grocery store rewards promotion that means you can buy $7 more of cookies and crackers and get a $3 rebate, so you buy some extra cookies and stash them. Then you end up bringing most of the cake you took to the church potluck home, you still have a cookies left from what you bought PLUS the package that is stashed, and then your spouse is checking out a new store in the area and brings home a package of store brand striped fudge cookies and a couple of pastries.

I don't think we will use all the bread before it goes out of date and I really don't have room in the freezer. I don't like wasting it.
I'm sure we'll eat all the cookies before they are out of date, but we don't really need them.
I just noticed the figs are starting to come on. They are high in sugar, too. I don't need cookies AND cake AND figs.

It's good to have another to take extra bread and cookies to.

One predominantly Filippino church I went to had food after nearly every meeting. Even during midweek meetings, there was about a 50-50 chance someone would bring some kind of food. We were selling food on the streets once a month, so if we had leftovers and had to dispose of the excess food, we had somewhere to take it. Unfortunately, some of the Indonesians didn't appreciate the Indonesian spices. Though they are part of the same region, Philippine food can be a bit bland compared to Indonesian food, though there are a few dishes that are more or less the same.

I love fig preserves. I can eat them right out of the jar. Those and pear. We have a fig tree but the squirrels always get them before we can.

I have ended up taking some tomatoes and cukes to church and to neighbors (because I had more than I needed fresh and I wasn't canning or pickling any). I also gave some to the neighbors.
I could give the bread to the neighbor's chickens, I suppose, if the bread goes stale. I gave their chickens thousands of Japanese beetles over the last couple of months.
I might just try to rearrange the space in the freezer. What usually ends up happening with that, though, is that the bread just languishes in the freezer and never gets used.
What I really need is a pointer on how to explain to darling husband that even though the bread was only a dollar, if we can't use it up in time, it is not a bargain.

The birds usually get our figs plus our fig tree is getting shaded out by a willow oak, but I did find a good amount this evening when I went out to mow. I grabbed a handful of the ripest ones and the ones I could reach without a ladder. I will try to pick the rest in the morning. We usually just eat what we can fresh, though I did dehydrate some in the sun a few times. I think they are excellent fresh with a little Camembert cheese and Triscuits.
