Unfortunately Lee is probably primed for something like this. The one here in Oregon was definitely aimed at Christians...Lee has plenty of those!
When I was at Lee the guy next door didn't want to have anything to do with God or a Christian education. He consistently returned to the dorm drunk or high...or some combination of the two. One night I asked him, "if you don't want to be here, then why are you here?"
His answer resonated with me...and made me feel compassion for him. He said, "my granddad was a COG preacher, my dad is a COG preacher, and if my parents were going to pay for my college, then I was going to Lee."
Don't get me wrong, I think you can get a GREAT education at Lee regardless of your relationship with Jesus. But if parents are forcing their unbelieving kids to attend, then it is likely to build resentment. I pray that resentment never results in a student doing something drastic like this. |

I wonder if the recent prayer requests were from a sense that this was going to happen, and the guy being arrested was the answer to the prayers of people on the board.
I also wonder if faculty students are allowed to take firearms and tazers to class with them. _________________ Link |

I wouldn't think students would be allowed to have firearms. These are kids as young as 17. I do think the attention scared him into confessing. |

The young man must be mentally off. Probably belongs in a psychiatric unit. |

This was TOTALLY a prank and the young man is devastated and inconsolable. He is in very deep trouble and, if convicted, could face a minimum of 15 years in prison and never allowed to fly again if he remains 'listed' as a terrorist, which his actions call for.
We talked to someone tonight that is as close as you can get to the situation and the administration at LU understand both the gravity of the situation, the no-tolerance policy, etc, but they also have discernment, the Spirit of the Lord and Godly sensibilities and they have deep, deep compassion and the feeling this young man was just acting foolishly and not maliciously. However, it is out of their hands and that 'sense' will have no influence on his journey forward from here. _________________ Live an epiK life!

Me too. Of course, I never said I was going to shoot 57 people either - and posted it where millions could see it.
The FBI is in charge - not sure there is any talking those guys out of prosecution.
FYI - my son knows the guy - he totally agrees with Phil U's assessment. _________________ Whether you like it or not, learn to love it, because its the best thing going today! |

But, had we had social media when we were at Lee, it would have been pretty bad. I sent a threatening letter to Tennessee Temple that got into the hands of the Chattanooga and Cleveland media. I got called to the President's office, not jail. So, fast forward, when I went to ask him if I could marry his daughter, he said "haven't you been here before, son?" |

Why, cause they didn't have the Holy Ghost? |

Eddie told them if they didn't get the gifts of the Spirit into their church soon - they would go out of business.
Guess it wasn't an idle threat. _________________ Whether you like it or not, learn to love it, because its the best thing going today! |

This is what I sensed when this came out. This poor kid from another country has no idea how serious it is these days. (some) American kids used to do it all the time years ago to get out of class or whatever, but these days it is absolutely no joke. I feel sorry for him, but also glad that the students are safe today. |

That's really horrible. His life is over. Even if he only serves 10 years and gets out in his thirties, he'll never fly or be able to hold a serious job. It would be nice if there was even a possibility for discretion in cases like this, even if discretion ultimately wasn't provided -- but with the government and cases like this, there is none. This kid's life, as he knew it, is over. I pray God will give him a new life on the other side of this and turn this thing to His glory. |

Great Story! I would never admit that I "borrowed" a STOP sign on the campus of Tennessee Tech and that as I was carrying it across the campus that unbeknownst to me police were running across the grass trying to catch me as I non chalantly walked into my dorm room with the STOP sign in hand. For some reason, later that night, the sign decided to walk out of my room back on the general campus. Nobody ever ratted to the Police on who took the sign. But, I would NEVER admit to having taken it, temporarily - never. Also, like Bill Clinton, I smoked but never inhaled.
Seriously, just glad I never got caught for the stupid things I did.

I wouldn't say his life is over. If it is obvious that it was a prank and he has no prior record and the fact that terrorists don't turn themselves in, he may have a chance. |
