Liberation theology, marxism, anti-capitalism, Cuban dictators/murderers, global climate change theory, USA bashing, pedephilia and any other of a number of liberal issues, not to mention heretical christian doctrine that is leading a billion adherents to hell (not saying all catholics are going to hell, some love Jesus and are just ignorant of the truth). Beyond that the 266 IL poppa may just be the false prophet of revelation. Didn't say he was but it gives one pause to consider it. |

I agree with you Brother James about us having a different doctrine than the Pope. If we do not have a different doctrine and set of beliefs we would be wrong to encourage Catholics to leave their church and join ours. |

We, as evangelicals, needn't get too sanctimonious with our condemnation of RCC sex abuse scandals (L) |

I agree. He has some skewed political views for sure, but he is the opposite of the picture of the apostate pope of the middle-ages with the crown and jewels and corruption. He has excomunicated priests for pedophilia and gone a long way to rectify that situation. The way he washed the feet of the poor and humbles himself is admirable. The way he stands for the unborn is as well.

Really? You want to equate a few bad apples in our churches, which by the way we all deplore and institute policies to be sure they do not occur frequently and when they do occur prosecute to the fullest extent of the law, you want to compare that to a church that has for centuries silently encouraged and covered up that behavior and only when exposed began to deal with it and that under duress. You honestly want to give your support to institional pedephilia by conflating a few bad apples in the protestant church and equating that with the Catholic Church? Really? Try again. |

While the pope does wash the feet of the poor and support the cause of the unborn, he also meets with murderers in Cuba and deplored the idea of free market capitalism which has raised the standard of living of everyone. The best pope of the last century was John Paul who along with Reagan and Thatcher brought down communism and opened the door for the charismatic masses in the Catholic Church to be recognized and endorsed. |

I agree about his politics, but that is not a Christian issue. I believe Christianity thrives best in a free market of course, but there are Christians in every communist country in the world too. He came from a socialist leaning background where no doubt he was taught that the US was evil because it had money, etc... So I will try not to judge his (incorrect) views on politics too harshly and try to look at the big picture. John Paul II was a great political pope, but a classic Marian who probably never thought of Jesus as anything more than a glowing baby or a dead body on a stick, I get the opposite impression from this pope. Funny you should mention charasmitic mass since this pope fully embraces the charismatic gifts including tongues coming from South America where there has been a large outpouring of the Holy Spirit including even the Catholic church. Outside of the political world, I feel a lot more in common with this pope coming from a Pentecostal background than I have ever before. I didn't even know Catholics EVER washed feet |

Child sex abuse and cover ups in churches are more prevalent than you apparently realize or you wouldn't be dismissing it as a "few bad apples" that we have prosecuted "to the fullest extent of the law."

every molestation is a tragedy |
brotherjames |
and if any in our churches were covered up it is utter hypocrisy and criminal and should be exposed. However what had gone on in the Catholic Church far and away surpasses that. Their entire doctrine of celibacy winds up attracting homosexuals and pedophiles and the cover up is centuries old. And having served in fairly high leadership roles in a major denomination I can assure you any cases we were aware of were prosecuted and the individual dismissed from the ministry. |
