Somehow I do cannot see the angels smiling nor planting "sloppy wet kisses" over Swilley and his partner's sin. Sloppy, yes. Kisses no.
The true men and women of God must take a stand against sin and call sin as it is.

Jim Earl Swilley is nephew of Archbishop Earl Paulk Jr. Swilley is a charismatic universalist minister in the Atlanta area. He came out publicly as homosexual a few years ago, got divorced from his wife of over 20 years, and is now legally married to his gay lover/soulmate Ken Marshall. At the time he came out, he was pastoring an independent megachurch called 'Church in the Now,' which has now been closed for a few years. Swilley now leads a newer pro-gay universalist church in Atlanta. They no doubt have a fantastic music ministry. |

OK, fer the naysayers, here goes:
1. OTCP didn't make this thread a STICKY. Don't know who did.
2. OTCP DOES NOT enjoy pointing out the sins of others. When such is posted it is done so as a warning, a caveat to the faithful. What has took place with Swilley could take place with anybody if they don't live close to God.
3. OTCP saw the title of the article an this is what captured the attention: JUST AS I AM. The implication here is that God accepts us just as we are, saves us, leaves us just as we are, so were saved, but livin a sinful life, an it don't matter. This WAS NEVER the intent of the song. Yep, God accepts us just as we are, but he then forgives us, changes us, an our lifestyles are brought into alignment with the good book. Jimbo an Kenbo in the article suggest that "God knows how we are, he made us like this, an his grace covers our sin, all while we live an abominable lifestyle." Sorry, boys, at aint how it works. |
