Advantages of small churches... |

Where, if you're sick, people actually notice.
Where there are people deeply rooted because of their connections to the church...which means you can have friends that don't bounce here and there with every new game in town. |

Just look at the statistics in the article. Megachurches are the outliers. The majority of congregations are (relatively) small. Every size church has its own set of challenges. The biggest challenge to the small church is....that it's small. I don't judge any church for being small. But sometimes there are internal reasons that churches remain small. Those are troublesome.
The younger generation is much less consumer-oriented. The idea of being a spectator (the traditional model of the megachurch) doesn't really appeal to them. So in that respect, I think Thom is on to something. I think we will see many more multi-site smaller venues in the future. |
