Well, beloved we are having "IT" at Youth Conference this year.

People are strange, including Christians. Many want the Old days, They (we) mean, SOME PARTS of the old days. We like to pick and choose.
But glad you are enjoying HIS blessings. _________________ Some facts but mostly just my opinion!

I just don't understand how folks longing for the "old days" can stay in a dead church and dry up! Isn't the Holy Spirit in you???
If the Spirit isn't moving where you attend, either start a victory march or find another church! The Spirit moves where He is welcome! _________________ "More of Him...less of me."

I have quoted this many times and it is so true. Carl Richardson says “if you want revival, draw a circle on the ground and step in it. Then, ask God to send a revival inside the circle. You don’t need a church to experience the Holy Ghost. It is you and Jesus. Not the preaching style, music style or what the people are wearing. |

It's also funny that several on there too talk about the COG being worldly. When I click on their
profiles the women have short hair, make-up, jewelry, shorts, etc. I guess they pick and choose what they think is worldly.
BTW, I love what you posted about the Spirit moving. It is up to us! |

That's like saying you need a head, but not a body.
The church doesn't save, but it is the primary means through which Christ works salvation and sanctification in us, and we do need it. Christ is not returning for many brides -- he is returning for one, the bride, his church, of which we as individuals are a part. |

Sure, but you need THE church, and how will you get it apart from A church? |

This is what we call a “dismembered†member. A part of the body that no longer feels they need the rest of the body. It’s easy to become unteachable and prideful in this condition. |

Hahaha! I am nowhere near dismembered from the body but I appreciate your failed attempt at judgment. |

I've always been quite moved by Calvin's words on this topic. Even moreso when the words are understood in light of Calvin's rejection of the Roman Catholic Church:
"Because it is now our intention to discuss the visible church, let us learn even from the simple title “mother†how useful, indeed how necessary, it is that we should know her. For there is no other way to enter into life unless this mother conceive us in her womb, give us birth, nourish us at her breast, and lastly, unless she keep us under her care and guidance until, putting off mortal flesh, we become like the angels [Matthew 22:30]. Our weakness does not allow us to be dismissed from her school until we have been pupils all our lives. Furthermore, away from her bosom one cannot hope for any forgiveness of sins or any salvation, as Isaiah [Isaiah 37:32] and Joel [Joel 2:32] testify. Ezekiel agrees with them when he declares that those whom God rejects from heavenly life will not be enrolled among God’s people [Ezekiel 13:9]. On the other hand, those who turn to the cultivation of true godliness are said to inscribe their names among the citizens of Jerusalem [cf. Isaiah 56:5; Psalm 87:6]. For this reason, it is said in another psalm: “Remember me, O Jehovah, with favor toward thy people; visit me with salvation: that I may see the well-doing of thy chosen ones, that I may rejoice in the joy of thy nation, that I may be glad with thine inheritance†[Psalm 106:4-5 p.; cf. Psalm 105:4, Vg., etc.]. By these words God’s fatherly favor and the especial witness of spiritual life are limited to his flock, so that it is always disastrous to leave the church." (Institutes 4:1:4) |

Good post DD! It has always been the manner of some to forsake the local assembly since the inception of the Church. Excommunication in biblical times seemed to be a big deal. Evidently there is a protection the local assembly provides, otherwise being “handed over to Satan†means nothing. The extreme opposite view is that going to church is equivalent with being a Christian. Both extreme positions should be rejected. |

We need fellowship with other believers (the church). This does not require someone to place membership in or attend A church.
Disclaimer:
I attend a church and I'm a member, however, I don't see it as a requirement.
Despite the continued abuse of Hebrews10:25 by pastors.

Have to disagree with you there. The local church patterned in the New Testament is much more than simple fellowship with other believers.
This whole article by Ricky Jones is worth a read, but I'll call out this excerpt:
Quote: | I want you to understand that being a part of the universal church without submitting to a local church is not possible, biblical, or healthy.
First, it’s simply not possible. To imply you can be part of the greater community without first being part of the smaller is not logical. You cannot be part of Rotary International without also being part of a local chapter. You cannot be part of the universal human family without first being part of a small immediate family.
Second, it’s not biblical. Every letter in the New Testament assumes Christians are members of local churches. The letters themselves are addressed to local churches. They teach us how to get along with other members, how to encourage the weak within the church, how to conduct ourselves at church, and what to do with unrepentant sinners in the church. They command us to submit to our elders, and encourage us to go to our elders to pray. All these things are impossible if you aren’t a member of a local church. (See 1 and 2 Corinthians, James, Ephesians, 1 and 2 Timothy, and 1 Peter for references.)
Asking where the Bible commands you to be a church member is like asking where the USGA rulebook for golf insists you be a human. The whole book is addressed to the church.
Finally, living without church membership is not healthy. Independence—the desire to choose for yourself what’s right and wrong—is at the heart of sin. You need the humility lesson of submitting to flawed elders. You need the encouragement of sharing victories with your church. You need the fellowship of sharing sufferings with your church.
You need to know we’re all in this life together, and we won’t walk away from you just because you let us down or we disagree. Together we build each other up into the image of Christ; no one can make it alone. I encourage you to rethink the importance of church membership. Our fellowship may be an affliction, but we are a glorious affliction. And we will walk into glory together. |
