GAston County NC has one of the best ice cream shops in the country. They make their own and have one million flavors (evangelistic speaking). Tony's Ice cream has been around since the early 1900's.
In the 1950's when I started dating my wife that was the place to be on Sunday nite after church. The COG owned the place from about 8:30 to 10PM. The biggest thickest milkshakes made. They served cones differently, you were never handed the cone. They used flat spade like dippers, loaded the come wrapped it loosely in wax paper and sorta threw it on the stainless steel counter. RAy Collins, BF Darnell, Ralph Tedder, Lanky Lambert, & other preachers were there to talk about their services.
I liked the Black Walnut, but I fell for the BUTTER PECAN flavor.
I will never understand why they make any other kind, it is the best. My wife thinks Chocolate is the best, I have no idea why, it's okay, but it ain't Butter Pecan.
Can you explain why you prefer your favorite flavor with out saying because it is GOOD. I can't, all I know is my taste buds say, 'THIS IS THE BEST,' WHEN I eat a cone of Butter Pecan Ice cream.
Tony's stands out in my mind because i could be there with hundreds of COG teens, some moms and dads and a bunch of pastors, and have the greatest time in the world without having someone look at me like I had two heads because I was considered a Holy Roller.
When you can get that feeling rolling with your youth, you will have a happy crowd. (Most of them will like Butter Pecan too!)
