Post Against Trump (L) Dave Dorsey
I will warn you now that I will not be returning to this thread to debate or discuss. I offer this editorial as a shot across the bow, a wish in the darkness, and a last and desperate plea.

If you consider yourself a conservative and the body of evidence collected in this editorial does not convince you that a Trump presidency would be a menace to the issues you hold dear, I am confident that nothing will, which is why I won't return to answer your objections or respond to your complaints. If you still wish to support Trump after thoughtfully reading every word of this piece, may fortune follow you on your path. I will make no further efforts to convince you otherwise.

Keep speaking the truth Dave. I have come around after putting him in at least my second slot the whole time. I have enjoyed some of his antics and the fact that he was a big "bird" to the establishment at first, but that has run its course for me. We need to keep shining the light until its too late, I can't believe that a people who put God first would vote for this man in the primaries when they actually have a choice. If it comes down to Trump in the general, I'll vote for him out of duty (again, like I have for the last 2 losers), but on super-tuesday I will be voting for Ted Cruz and praying that the right person wins the nomination. Thanks Dave.

It is good that you will no longer fight against Trump.

Trump is egotistical , ill mannered , no public speaking class , and on and on

But He is still better than what we have had and what we have in congress.

Send a message to the slug republicans - elect trump... We shouldnt have any more to clean up afterwards than we have had in the past.

National Review past:
Promoted Pat Buchanan for President - later said they were wrong.
Still promotes legalizing drugs...mayjane,, etc...

Sarah Palin is a regular contributor - opposes this editorial swipe.

Reagan said - do fellow Republican no harm.

Nat Review has lost their way...Buckley would be ashamed.

C6th, the slug-republicans just shutdown the conservatives who wrote the National Review piece against Trump. The RNC is now firmly in Trump's corner. Exactly what message are you wanting to send them?

Of course they are making a stand in the election year... Where were they when passed all of Obamas garbage the past 7 years? Where are the promised lawsuits threatened by the Rep's? Why are they funding every one of Obama's quills?

Dave,

Thanks for the link. That was a really nice, well-stated opinion piece. I wish the Republican electorate had that much wisdom. I really liked this paragraph, but something about it reminded me of the current president. But he did have a little experience as a senator.

Quote:

It is unpopular to say in the year of the “outsider,” but it is not a recommendation that Trump has never held public office. Since 1984, when Jesse Jackson ran for president with no credential other than a great flow of words, both parties have been infested by candidates who have treated the presidency as an entry-level position. They are the excrescences of instant-hit media culture. The burdens and intricacies of leadership are special; experience in other fields is not transferable. That is why all American presidents have been politicians, or generals.

NR did a hit piece on Reagan in 1980.

I think a better approach would be to say, "Make God great again in America."

Hey but as long as they have that high rating from Focus on the Family or some such group that makes them okay to many on this board.

Would you care to cite the alleged NR hit piece on Reagan from 1980? He and Buckley were the best of friends, swam together, stayed in each other's homes, etc., and NR carried water for Reagan and provided cover during Iran Contra. They didn't agree on every single issue (Panama Canal), but Buckley and Reagan were beyond close. Friendly Face

There are several of those people in the review that I do respect.

BUT what is offered in a way to save the nation from Hillary (or Bernie). I do not hear anyone trumpeting Trumps conservative credentials? he is not! But I challenge you to show me ANY president in the past since the 40's that did not GROW government. BUT SOME WERE REAL CONSERVATIVES! (not)

The ignorant GOP has produced Trump. Now they want to shoot him down after there is no one left that can challenge the Present Demoocratic regime or the next one.

These 'CONSERVATIVES' PICK NOW TO SHOW WISDOM, at a time that is too late in my personal opinion. They have used the big guns to shoot Cruz and shoot (AT) Trump, the last to no avail!

So now that we have a REAL MESS, lets join the circular firing squad and give it all to the Democrats. This bunch is crazy! Twisted Evil

Buckley had no hit piece on Reagan in 1980.

Current National Review has lost their way, however.

I agree as to the highly unlikely probability that they came after Reagan, but I can't agree with you that they've lost their way. They are a conservative magazine, with a history of opposing liberal candidates (Rockefeller, Ford) and supporting conservatives (Goldwater, Reagan).

I'm not debating whether or not Trump is what the country needs, but there is no debate as to if he's a conservative. They are simply pursuing the philosophy that Buckley stated when they endorsed Goldwater over Rockefeller.

As always, we are all entitled to our opinions.

Since the GOP usually takes their advice, I'm sure that's why they are scared stiff
