My granddad said he would never vote for a Republican and he didn't, luckily that did not mean the same thing it does today. My dad voted democrat until 1984 when this 13-year-old explained to him what the democratic party was about (even then). He bucked the trend of his farming family and union to vote for Ronald Reagan and has never looked back since. It took Ronald Reagan and the so-called "Reagan Democrats" to get the rest of America's conservative voters to see that the democratic party had left them forever. I pray we're not about to have another party leave us, but looking over the last 20 years or so, it certainly seems that way. From "no new taxes" to "no child left behind" the Republican party has shown that it too is a party of big spending, big government, big deficit, big taxes and big wars just like the democrats. |
