Invited to Preach at LGBT Service |
Link |
I was talking with a Bible college classmate of my wife. He asked me if I could speak at a church on Wednesday. I agreed.
Then he told me it was an LGBT service.
My wife went to the GBI (COG) Bible College.
On further discusssion, this is an outreach to LGBT people. They are asked to dress their gender, not something else, and preachers are expected to preach the truth (not pro-homosexual behavior.)
I was relieved to hear that. _________________ Link |

What I know so far from asking questions is that he went around on the street and found people in the gay community, gave them a flier. Some of them are from Christian backgrounds. Others are from another religion that represents a large part of the population here.
He says there are about 40 people. There are people still in the life style who come. There are those trying to get out who fall back into it. Maybe some have gotten free of it.
He seemed to think it made sense to minister to them separately. Maybe it prevents negative reactions from other people in the congregation. I asked him if there could be temptation to fall from other people in the meeting. He didn't seem to think that was a problem. I'll see what it is like when I go there.
As far as the general culture goes, the average person in the environment I'll be preaching in hasn't been brainwashed to think that gay is okay like in the west. There is a general idea that it is wrong, at least right here. But there is also a kind of passive tolerance toward transvestite beggars. Some people think transvestites who pretend to be women are funny. It's kind of a comedy thing. And then some don't think the transvestites live homosexual lifestyles even if they act 'gay'. _________________ Link |

I was thinking of posting the headline about the COG LGBT service. I think it's a COG/GBI service, but I'm not 100% sure. I only know a bit about his educational background and other details garnered from a lengthy conversation. _________________ Link |

As far as the obese comment thing goes, I thought about that, a church meeting for people with a struggle with a specific sin is kind of odd if you think about it. But fat people don't form fat people communities, I suppose, around over eating... that I can think of. Maybe drinkers do. _________________ Link |

Yeah, gluttony is the issue, and it doesn't exactly correlate with being obese. And some people can pull off being skinny gluttons, at least for a while. _________________ Link |

Think I'll start one for folk with questionable credentials (unaccredited degrees, milled docterates, etc.). |

Are you going to start a Pentecostal and Charismatic preachers' meeting? _________________ Link |
