"Therefore, when He comes into the world, He says,
'Sacrifice and offering You have not desired, but a body You have prepared for Me;'" Heb. 10:5
Christmas day we celebrate His arrival on planet earth.
We celebrate the fact that He put on a body and came to save us.
"In Him was life, and the life was the light of men." John 1:4
Life appeared on planet earth.
Not just any Life...the very life of God.
Jesus brought our Father out of darkness and into light.
"That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world." John 1:9
He enlightened "every man" to the Truth about a Father that no one had clearly seen before.
The old covenant system of works-based righteousness, left us filthy, condemned, cursed and separated from our Father. The Law hid God in thick darkness (Deut. 5:22) and left us unable to see Him (Exo. 33:20) or know Him.
Then Jesus put on a body, laid in a manger and brought us the the life of the Father.
While He was here, He showed us how kind, generous, forgiving, compassionate, merciful, patient and loving the Father was.
While He was here, He showed us how angry and frustrated the Father was with the sin-focused, self-conscious, works-based, system of the Law.
While He was here, He showed us a Father that gives grace to the humble and resists the proud.
“If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him.” John 14:7
At the end of Jesus' earthly life, we had clearly seen the life of the Father!
From now on we "know Him".
From now on we "have seen Him".
None of the old testament pictures of God were clear.
None of them showed the goodness of God.
None of them allowed us to know Him or see Him.
The tree of the knowledge of good and evil Adam chose turned death loose on the world. That ministry of condemnation, curses and death was brought to fruition in the self-righteous system of the Law that God never took pleasure in or desired - wreaking condemnation, fear, sin and death.
"Previously saying, “Sacrifice and offering, burnt offerings, and offerings for sin You did not desire, nor had pleasure in them” (which are offered according to the law), then He said, “Behold, I have come to do Your will, O God.” He takes away the first that He may establish the second. By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all." Heb. 10:8-10
Your Father "did not desire" that system.
Your Father had no "pleasure" in that system of sin and death.
Then the Tree of Life showed up in a body to fulfill the requirements of that system - to take away "the first that He may establish the second".
He did it! He overcame the world!
He took all sin away.
He died the death that the Law, the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, required of every man.
He sanctified every man through the offering of that body "once for all".
"For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death." Rom. 8:2
He set us free from the law sin and death that separated us from the Life the Father always wanted for us.
Now, the only question remaining is:
Can you hear and believe this Good News?
"Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes has eternal life." John 6:47 _________________ I'm not saved because I'm good. I'm saved because He's good!
