If the word of God is not accepted as such, there is no authoritative word by which we may know and retain the truth. His word is truth, the word of truth -- not just the parts we want to accept as such. Otherwise we make ourselves the authority, and not Him through His word. Yo, dude, every word of God is pure. Calling into question the divinity and validity of part or portion necessarily contaminates the whole.

As for creation, and it being accepted as a literal occurrence, even Jesus accepted it as such. And He was, IS, the Creator. So He ought to know.

Mark 10:6
But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female.

Please note also, getting back on topic as regards this thread, that Jesus here cites the creation of man, male and female, as part and parcel of the act of Creation. In other words, the beginning includes (indeed concludes) with the creation of man in the first week.

Indeed, HIS WORD is the truth. But we have "decided" that every single thing in the BIBLE is HIS WORD. It's not.

On what grounds do you hold, say, that Song of Solomon is the Word of God? You do it ONLY because of tradition. NOT because Jesus quoted from the book. Not because the book has some sublime spiritual message. But because someone said, "All these books are inspired," and we fell in line.

Yes, you can derive spiritual value from Song of Solomon. As you can from "The Three Pigs" (e.g., building wisely), "Gone with the Wind," and virtually every book ever written (even if to say, "This is NOT what God is pleased with!).

The doctrine of inerrancy/verbal inspiration would have us believe that Song of Solomon, with its erotic imagery that never so much as once speaks of God, is equivalent to gospel which are "breathing out fire and immortality on every side"? NO. NO. NO.

Paul himself says, "(1 Cor 7:12 KJV) But to the rest speak I, not the Lord: If any brother hath a wife that believeth not, and she be pleased to dwell with him, let him not put her away."

But my point is not to convince you, but rather to simply demonstrate the way that I feel I must approach the Bible in order to maintain intellectual and spiritual integrity. God bless.

The point of this passage isn't to teach a science lesson, it was to answer a question on divorce. Even if Jesus intended to make a statement concerning creation, did he have the required knowledge to speak with authority on that issue? I guess that depends on how you view the incarnation. Beyond that, if Jesus did have the required knowledge, would people have understood? Perhaps Jesus was revealing truth on their level not on his.

Although, this passage would lend support to Aaron's claim that not all of the Bible is inspired scripture. Check out verses 4 and 5. Jesus pretty much says Moses put this in the Bible by the will of man and not God, then proceeds to correct the errant Moses.

Dforest, do you profess to be a Christian?
This is a sincere question and not intended in a sarcastic way.
