After 10 years of COGs, finally went to a Pentecostal church |

I spent about 10 years in Indonesia overall. I've been to plenty of Bethel churches, the COG affiliate. The culture at most of these churches is Charismatic.
Recently, I was in the Tebet area of Jakarta, Indonesia and I visited an interdenominational meeting hosted by the Center of Pentecostalism Church of Indonesia. That's how I'll translate it. There's probably a better-sounding translation.
I told my wife that after 10 years in Indonesia, I finally felt like I was in a Pentecostal church, with the older style of music and everything. We sang a lot of familiar songs, including Power in the Blood. I'd never heard the Indonesian versions of some of the hymns. Style-wise is was fairly Pentecostal.
The GBIs (COGs) I've been to use more contemporary music. I realize a lot of Pentecostal churches back home do that nowadays, too. I just remember the older songs as a child and that style still feels more Pentecostal. A lot of GBIs call themselves 'Charismatic.' A lot of them will have a worship leader who tells everyone to speak in tongues at the same time, or have everyone sing in tongues or whatever they want in English at the same time, a style that seems more Charismatic to me than Pentecostal. _________________ Link |

I was very seldom at any church other than COG in my early years. Over the last 60 years we have visited many churches (denominations & independent) it is always GOOD to walk into a worship service that touches a cord, especially takes you back. (But you are still a young whipper-snapper!)
I enjoyed reading the post my friend. The best to you over there. At times I envy you the foreign living and travel.

Thanks. Have you considered taking a drive south of the border. Many years ago, I read it was possible to drive all the way down to the southern part of Argentina. _________________ Link |

Yes I have thought about it, but age has gotten in the way. Also a friend of a good friend lost an expensive coach in Mexico to the local Sheriff who searched the coach and found prescriptions drugs. Kept the coach and used it for a year before he was able to recover the 'shell' that was left.
Anyway That time has past.
Love to the wife and kids. _________________ Some facts but mostly just my opinion!
