OUT OF THE SHADOW OF DEATH, INTO THE LIGHT OF LIFE

For the Law, since it has only a shadow of the good things to come and not the very form of things, can never, by the same sacrifices which they offer continually year by year, make perfect those who draw near. Otherwise, would they not have ceased to be offered, because the worshipers, having once been cleansed, would no longer have had consciousness of sins? But in those sacrifices there is a reminder of sins year by year. For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. Heb 10:1-4

The law was only a shadow...killing, killing, killing.

Why did God take no pleasure in the death of those sacrifices?
1. They couldn't make us perfect (Heb. 7:18,19);
2. They couldn't cleanse us once and for all by taking away sins;
3. They constantly reminded the people of their sins;
3. They couldn't remove our consciousness of sins.

Therefore, when He comes into the world, He says,
“Sacrifice and offering You have not desired,
But a body You have prepared for Me;
In whole burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin You have taken no pleasure.
“Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come (In the scroll of the book it is written of Me)
To do Your will, O God.’”
Heb. 10:5-7

Why did Jesus put on a body? To do the Father's will:
1. To make us perfect;
2. To cleanse us once and for all by taking away our sin;
3. To remove our consciousness of sins so we could come to Him boldly;
4. To stop reminding us of our sins.

After saying above, “Sacrifices and offerings and whole burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin You have not desired, nor have You taken pleasure in them” (which are offered according to the Law), then He said, “Behold, I have come to do Your will.” He takes away the first in order to establish the second. Heb. 10:8,9

He took away the first (the old covenant) to establish the second (the new covenant). He did not desire the first or take pleasure in the first. But His Son came in whom He was well-pleased, to do His will.

By this will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. Every priest stands daily ministering and offering time after time the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins; but He, having offered one sacrifice for sins for all time, sat down at the right hand of God, waiting from that time onward until His enemies be made a footstool for His feet. For by one offering He has perfected for all time those who are sanctified. Heb. 10:10-14

1. His offering sanctified us (made us holy);
2. His offering took away our sins (all of them);
3. His offering perfected us for all time.

And the Holy Spirit also testifies to us; for after saying,
“This is the covenant that I will make with them
After those days, says the Lord:
I will put My laws upon their heart,
And on their mind I will write them,”
He then says,
“And their sins and their lawless deeds
I will remember no more.”
Now where there is forgiveness of these things, there is no longer any offering for sin.
Heb. 10:15-18

1. His offering took away the letter and brought the Holy Spirit's testimony;
2. His offering brought in the second (a new covenant);
3. His offering moved the Spirit into our hearts and minds (2 Cor. 3:3);
4. His offering means our sins are not in God's memory;
5. His offering means He is no longer dealing with sin.

Therefore, brethren, since we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He inaugurated for us through the veil, that is, His flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Heb. 10:19-22

1. His offering removed our consciousness of sins so we could come into the holy place clean and confident, holy, because of His offering;
2. His offering removed the veil (the sin in our flesh) that separated us from His glory and goodness by Him taking our sin into His flesh and allowing it to be broken;
3. His offering gives us a full assurance of faith and a clean heart;
4. His offering ended the first (the old and dying way) and established the second (the new and living way).
