When it comes to humans, it seems that God creates only pottery or mosaics.
For pottery, God must start with a lump of clay, fashioning it into something far more beautiful and useful.
For mosaics, God takes broken, irregularly shaped pieces and places them together in such a way as to create a beautiful work of art.
None of us can give to God anything but broken pieces. If not at first, then surely at some point, we all can feel broken and destroyed.
We may feel finished then, but God is just getting started. He is gathering the pieces of our cheap and broken vessel in order to place them in an arrangement that multiplies its value, that is a true work of art. |
