I doubt if anyone on this board has paid tithe longer than my wife. She started in 1946. When we were married our monthly income was $155.30. This girl sent in a money order for $15.30 I was shocked. I said, "Honey, send in $15.50 ."
"I cannot do that, it is not 10%, the other would be offerings."
You may laugh at that, but it took me a couple years to convince her you could pay more than 10%. In the last 60 years she has learned she can send more and still call it tithe. She is happy, I am happy.
We got a pay increase in a month of so and she was sure it was because we paid tithe. Although our neighbors who were Catholic got the same raise. .
I know MOST of the COG ministers and laity believe tithe is mandatory. Most of us have been told that for years.
If we are so sure, as a denomination, why is it not a test of membership?
Just asking opinions. _________________ Some facts but mostly just my opinion!
