What's the big deal? |
spartanfan |
The overseer wants to provide one of his best churches with a fine aggressive/progressive pastor so he makes the call.
The pastor he calls has done a great job where he is and decides to pray about it and to his surprise - he feels it's God's will for him to submit a resume.
The church goes through the process of selection and chooses him.
The overseer offers.
He accepts.
That's how it works. And someone tries to reduce something as dramatic and gut wrenching as "leaving your baby behind to be cared for by another" as simply "more money." It might or might not be - but feeling this is the will of God so much outweighs anything about that. You have to have some kind of jealousy issues in order to try to reduce something as spiritual as this is to that. Who ever you are - I am sorry you didn't get offered "more money" when you feel like you deserved it at some point in your ministry because that might have kept you from becoming pitifully bitter. Congrats Travis. I'm happy for you (for when it will be great) and I'm sorry for you (when you struggle with having to spend time building the credibility and support at your new place that you left behind at your other place). But I am proud of you for being willing to do what you feel is God's will - no matter the cost. Be blessed! |

Mobile is a great city with several diverse COG Congregations.

This has NOTHING to do with Rev Johnson or the thread except that our sense of significance is sometimes skewed toward the church instead of the world we are called to.
This statement,
| Quote: | | Mobile is a very strong city for the Church of God. These churches are some of the strongest in the state. There are numerous other great churches in Mobile area. These are the largest. |
So, these strong churches represent an attendance of 3,500+ persons in the metro Mobile area and let's say the other congregations in our tribe have 3,500 aggregate. We do call that a strong presence. So, if we have 7,000 congregants in a metro area of 400,000+ we have 1.75% of the population we are messaging to each week. From a missional perspective what might these pastors conspire to do, in tandem, for the city to strategize an impact force for the Gospel movement in that city.
That is one of the dynamic forces of good that is possible in a tribe...pre-ordered synergistic possibilities. I hope they can seize it. _________________ Live an epiK life!

Phil,
Your point is well taken, but you may have missed the point of my post. I said, "There are numerous other great churches in Mobile area." There are a large number of other Church of God congregations. The point that I was making is that, according to the most recent Alabama stats, 3 out of 5 of the largest COG churches in Alabama are in the Mobile area. |

I got your point...you opened my eyes to something that ignited another thought. What if those larger church and the remainder of CofG congregations had a tandem missional strategy to impact the city with great grace and potent power? Would be a cool thing to see one tribe act in sync for such an endeavor. I am sure you are correct, there are many other great churches (from many tribes) in the area, was just dreaming of the CofG churches in this moment.
Also,I was not responding to your post as much as using your post. I was out of line for the thread but what I was saying was not important enough for a new thread. Thanks for pointing out what you pointed out. _________________ Live an epiK life!

Phil - What is "potent power"?
Is there "im-potent power"?
(Inquiring minds want to know these things. ) |
It's like when Isaiah was writing that line in the song of praise that we find in the 26th chapter.... I will keep him in "perfect peace" whose mind is stayed on Him.
As you are well aware, Isaiah uses sa-lo-wm twice... hence, "peace, peace" to add the emphatic idea of complete peace. I am so like Ike...potent power is written for that same emphasis.
Good to see you, Tom. Blessings. _________________ Live an epiK life!

Something great must be about to happen in Mobile.
First David Smith now Travis Johnson. |
Travis is the real deal. God bless him and his family. Also prayers for the church in Florida. As always, GOD IS GOOD! _________________ Some facts but mostly just my opinion!
