That's a great observation. That sort of approach really does a good job of defusing anyone trying to use the gaffe against you.

Well, unfortunately, the president chose a different path. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2019/07/05/donald-trump-faults-teleprompter-airports-revolution-flub/1657077001/

Lots of people have had teleprompters go out on them... not a lot have started talking about securing Revolutionary War airfields as a result, lol.

Newt Gingrich.

Yeah, I know the baggage with his wife/affair. But he is the smartest Republican I know of. And he's not a sissy.

I'm good with Trump (over any of the Democrats), but if Newt's in the running, whew!

What is this, a contest to pick the worst GOP moral reprobate? I want to play. How about President Duncan Hunter? Laughing

Oh, I thought this was to pick the next president, not the next saint. (SMILE)

As you know from just looking over Church of God history, great preachers aren't always good administrators. And vice versa.

As was said of James Bond by M, sometimes you need a "blunt instrument." Yes, we would like to have BOTH (in the same person), but it often doesn't play out that way.

I'd much rather take my car to a Church of God mechanic (actually, I do, but still). But more than that that, I want to take my car to a GOOD mechanic.

It's all hardball at the presidential level. We've never had ANYONE who was all soft, sweet, and saintly. Reagan was a favorite...but consulted an astrologist. Clinton was a terrible moral example, yet by most measures, the country was actually in better shape on his watch (of course, that's because of Newt Gingrich).

Put it this way: We can VOTE for someone who is kind and saintly, but wind up ELECTING someone who is going to be against everything we stand for.

Would you rather have someone who is FOR what we stand for, even if he doesn't ACT like we want him to act...or would you rather have someone who is AGAINST what we stand for, but acts presidential?

I'm sticking with Trump. He had done some good things for our nation, I believe, even if I wish he could be a far nicer person. I'm not going to take away a vote for him just because I don't like his attitudes. If God can use a Nebuchadnezzar, He can use a Trump.

I have a cousin who is a friend of the guy who cuts Newt's grass, who is kin the the mechanic who works on Newt's car etc...

But to Newt. In my opinion, He is the smartest politically of the well known GOP'ers. His marital problems do reflect our society in the past 20-40 years. That doesn't change the fact he is smart politically and has proven it.
I'm handling Trump as Commander in Chief pretty well, so yep I could handle Newt. As a matter of fact I would prefer Newt to Trump.. But that ain't a gonna happen.

BTW my cousin says Newt is really a good guy. BUT for a fact, Newt blew it big time, but to his credit, when called on it, he admitted it and stepped down. Shocked

Trump for 2020 all the way - why fix it if it ain't broke?
Trey Gowdy would make a great choice in 2024 - he speaks his mind & gets right to the point.
I'm biased towards Pence for 2024 & fully expect him to win the nomination & the Whitehouse.

Rubio / Haley / Pence are the Republicans best bet going forward (at this time).

Hopefully they would continue most of Trumps policies, be hardened in their resolve to accomplish them, and maintain their generally good guy demeanor (which Trump doesn't have).

Obviously, they would begin by being called homophobes, racist, sexist, stupid, warmongers - no matter what they are actually for or against.

Post Haley would be another good one... Aaron Scott
The problem with Pence is that he is so overshadowed by Trump's bombastic personality that he comes across not much different than Ben Carson: A non-forceful individual in a position that demands forcefulness.

Now, that's not to say that either of them is not forceful, but that is the perception I get. Especially when I saw Carson's testimony before Congress. I was made to wonder if he even knows what's going on in his department--or if anything is actually getting done on his watch.

I would vote for Pence, barring there not being a better candidate. But I also think that Haley or Gingrich would be the right mix of forceful conservatism and presidential-ness.

Gingrich isn't going to run. He will be 81 in 2024.

It was bad enough back then but can you imagine that during the social media era? Yet, it was pretty silent when Obama said “corpsemen” more than once in a speech, which means that wasn’t a slip of the tongue.
