Does not nature itself teach it's a shame for a man to have long hair? So what about preachers with long hair?

I'm thinkin a one what post heres on Acts who, cordin to their picture has shoulder length hair. I know a few fellers who've done the long hair thing (I mean while they were in ministry). I don't know if they think:

1. It's cool

2. Their pushin the limit on a issue

3. Their cutting edge & relevant

4. They just plain ole rebellious.

What's the deal with men havin long hair when the good Book says it is shameful?

Maybe cause the Good Book don't say it's sinful?

There's lots of stuff that's a shame.

It's a shame some non COG folks dominate a COG message board.
It's a shame the Seminoles have a good football team.
It's a shame some folks have $250.00 doctorates.

Post Long is a relevant term spartanfan
My hair is long compared to Jason Isaac's but it is short compared to Jentzen's. It's long compared to my dad's but short compared to my wife's. So what's the cut off point to where it becomes "long"? If it means "long" like a woman's hair in 1st century Israel then a guy could have pretty long hair and not be mistaken for a woman because theirs was well down their back and probably all the way to the bottom of the back. So then I supposed that with a first century statement it needs to be based upon the norm of the first century in the place where it was spoken/written. So long means long enough to be mistaken for a woman (from behind) in the first century middle eastern culture. Any thing less than that is "shorter" hair. So even though our hair is longer than Kerry Shook's - both Jentzen and I are well within the Scriptural guidelines. Golf Cart Mafia Underboss

Isn't it funny though, that "nature" left uninhibited, will produce long hair on a man? And it takes "unnatural " means (i.e. Scissors/razor) to stop that process. We should probably stop shaving and/or trimming beards as well. Let nature have its way. Laughing Acts Enthusiast

Maybe they just wanted to look like the man in the picture Grandma had hanging on her wall.

(Nice to see the shepherd included that one black sheep in the fold. Ole Timer, is your hair black?)

Btw, spartanfan, I think you mean "relative."

Ole Timer, it's interesting how folks get caught up in that part of the whole text (1 Corinthians 11) about women prophesying or praying in church. Does it not seem that the point our good brother Paul was making was that women should maintain the cultural dress codes that distinguish them as women while they are praying or prophesying? This of course, would be subject to change as times and cultures change. It doesn't mean that a man can't have shoulder length hair or that a woman who cuts her hair is going to "split hell wide open."

Now, one other thing while we're hashing this topic out, Ole Timer...
Your topic line asks about long-haired preachers, and I just want to make sure you are not saying there is anything wrong with long-haired preacher women. I just want to make sure you're not saying women can't be preachers.

And then there was this Sampson feller!

BUT, but I sorta agree. Nature takes us holy men's hair, cause we are holy (I guess) Maybe WE should get together and be Bishops and such! Wink

Nature itself teaches that a man gets a lot less of it as he gets older - where is that line in the Bible?

I wish you had added the word "hair" in that sentence, lol.

Anyway, the Bible does mention Elisha being teased about being bald by some kids. Elisha didn't put up with that nonsense and dealt with it rather harshly, I'd say. Maybe it's good to remember that's Old Testament.
There are a couple of verses that talk about hair turning white in old age (so I guess not every man loses it, lol):

Leviticus 19:32
Thou shalt rise up before the hoary head, and honour the face of the old man, and fear thy God: I am the Lord.

Proverbs 16:31
The hoary head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousness.

Now I'm with ya on at right air, NB, but the truth a the matter is at they don't have a $250 doctorate. They got a worthless piece a paper that cost $250 that they say is a doctorate. it ain't.

Ole Timer, I'm just trying to think of a way to tie the first post and last post on this thread together, and the only thing I can think of is to ask if long-haired sheep breeds make better parchments. [Insert Acts Pun Here]
