Jesus is the vine. If you are not a branch connected to the vine, you are no good. If you are connected to the vine, all your sustenance comes from the vine.

as a branch we have to be trimmed and pruned sometimes close to the trunk, our feeder source and are barely profitable. As a branch we can bear bad fruit and we need the skill of good husbandry. (Does that mean branches are female and their source is husbandry?) _________________ Sanctification is subsequent to the new birth |

"Husbandman" in John ch. 14 means the farmer who cares for the vineyard. Jesus says God the Father is the one who prunes the vines.
The point is if you have any goodness at all, it comes from being attached to the vine (Jesus).
Jesus said, "...[T]here is none good but one, that is, God." Mark 10:18

the husbandman trims away the good he has automatically put into us. He trims away his good in order to get more of his good out of us! _________________ Sanctification is subsequent to the new birth |

Everything one may receive from God is by grace through faith, not of works, lest any man should boast. If our hearts are pure/sanctified, it is only because we by faith receive God's promise of sanctification. |

that would be an acceptable answer if you believed that people not living sanctified lives have not God's grace flowing and are not born again. That is the answer consistent with Calvinism. _________________ Sanctification is subsequent to the new birth |

That's not scriptural.

I am easily confused. I am a logical guy and for some reason contradictory statements are illogical.
If I am good, can I be 'not good' sometime?
If no one is good, can I be good all the time?
And then there is the NO NOT ONE again, am I in the middle of one of 'em straw men again? _________________ Some facts but mostly just my opinion!

If you hold to original sin then none are good no not one
There is the view of deniers of original sin _________________ Sanctification is subsequent to the new birth |

By this will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. Heb 10:10
Jesus is my sanctification.
But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption, so that, just as it is written, “Let him who boasts, boast in the Lord.” 1 Cor 1:30,31

That reminds me of a song one of our pastors taught us.
http://www.cyberhymnal.org/htm/a/l/allineed.htm
Jesus Christ is made to me,
All I need, all I need,
He alone is all my plea,
He is all I need.
Refrain
Wisdom righteousness and pow’r,
Holiness forevermore,
My redemption full and sure,
He is all I need.
Jesus is my all in all,
All I need, all I need,
While He keeps I cannot fall,
He is all I need.
Refrain
He redeemed me when He died,
All I need, all I need,
I with Him was crucified,
He is all I need.
Refrain
Glory, glory to the Lamb,
All I need, all I need,
By His Spirit sealed I am,
He is all I need.
Refrain |
