A pastor is called by a member of the council. Will you take the job as overseer of xyz state or territory? And if you take the job will you Affirm that you will stay there for the full appointment.

I have known only two men who got the call and the lines were just about the same. The Executive was concerned that the appointee would not stay. Truthfully, no matter your age you can get 'homesick' for a better word.

Now the pastor says yes. He is leaving a church where he is doing well and the family is happy. He leaves 'security' for the unknown. Our missionaries do the same thing many times.

Now the problem. What to do with these men/women at the end of their time 'on-the-road? Truthfully (from what I have seen) the returning Overseer is treated better than the missionary, but both need, deserve to be placed in a church at least the size they left. Now of course I am thinking and talking PHYSICAL RESPONSIBILITIES not spiritual, where we pray for God's guidance to send the person where he is needed.

I only worked as a pastor in two states, and in both states I heard preachers complain that the best churches were given to men from 'OUT OF STATE'.

What is the best answer? And yes I know (have heard many times) jobs have been created and salaries and expenses paid by the national Church. Like it or not that is the best answer at times it seems, although I do not like it personally from the pew.

Near Bradenton Florida there is an entire development by someone or some church that houses returning missionaries and they get a stipend. I am not sure how it is set up. We just camped near and I heard rumors, I know it is not COG.

maybe that for Missionaries? I do not know! What is a good answer?
