we can all speculate till we're blue in the face. but none of us can prove it either way. if you are a drunk and want to justify your drunkenness you will take the stand that because they did it back then, it must be ok now (why don't you apply the same logic to womern?). if you are like me a t-totaler against it, you will be just as strong the other way.

Mem, with all due respect I have to disagree with you on this one. Our task should surely be to discover what the Bible actually teaches. This is exegesis - drawing out the meaning and intent of Scripture.
For a drunk to interpret the Bible in a certain way to justify their drunkenness is eisegesis - trying to read their presuppositions and circumstances into the Biblical text. For a drunk to indulge in eisegesis is wrong, but it is equally wrong for a teetotaller to try to make the Scripture conform to their opinions.
I am not a drunk (but I used to be). I am a tee-totaller. So I am not trying to justify anything. I just don't see any reason, other than wishful-thinking, for asserting that Jesus abstained from alcohol. Neither do I find abstinence from alcohol to be a Scriptural command. |

i like this subject. it alllllways!! brings out our lack of study and finding out the true intent of scripture. we just sit and let someone else do the study then take their word for it.

| Drinking is not wrong, I myself drink ONE glass of wine everyday (doctors orders), but I' m not a drunker ed ha. the bible says do not get drunk with wine, it never says don't drink it. Jesus gave out wine in the last supper, so are you saying Jesus was wrong in doing that? of course not, it's a wonderful drink, that thins the blood to help you live longer. |
