How would your church survive an audit? |

Every tax form filed, every penny going for what it was intended to do?
How about your state? _________________ Doctor of Bovinamodulation |

We Would Be Just Fine |
FG Minister |
Two years ago we decided to no longer process offerings and pay bills inside the church. We hired the largest accounting firm in our city to do this for us. Our annual budget is $500,000. We have an assigned CPA that has been taking care of all this for us, with all tax filings, workman's comp, quarterly reports, PPP, and more. We were paying the previous person $15 per hour to do this work and now we pay $65 per hour. The result is the CPA is so much quicker we are saving on average about $2000 per quarter! We will never go in-house with this again. Efficiency and professionalism and a CPA. It's the only way to go. |

I would think on a serious 'nit-picking' audit, many churches would come up short because of requirements I 'am learning' are required in the past 15-20 yrs.
I am not sure we need blanket audits, but I have sure heard some 'horror' stories of some of the larger churches and finances, where the pastor or his wife (family) still hold all the accountable offices.
One in the past couple years was a good friend on the finance committee asked a question about monies from the day care run by the church. The pastor asked him to leave the room and not return and tht he was no longer on the committee and was not even welcome back in the church. The tough part of that was my friend is the pastor's father in law. TRUE story. _________________ Some facts but mostly just my opinion!

It is LITERALLY impossible to get it all correct.... |

Every year (at least a few years back), Consumer Reports would give 10 tax preparers the SAME information with which to do someone's taxes.
They virtually ALWAYS came back with ten different answers.
It's so bad that the IRS will not even guarantee what their customer representatives say! If they say, no, do this, and you do that, you may still get dinged!
The more rules, the more loopholes.
Some churches/preparers are uber-aggressive when doing their taxes, while other are willing to pay more than they have to in order to keep out of harm's way.
It's the most rotten system on earth, and it needs to be nuked, then nuked again, for good measure. Then be struck by an asteroid. Then have a super-volcano explode directly under it. Then be hit by a mile-high tsunami. Then sown with landmines.
Well, that or at least make is SIMPLE. |

Our pastor is OCD about anything to do with the church finances, so I am confident that an audit wouldn’t turn up anything alarming. It’s a far cry from how the previous pastor left the church. _________________ “Hell will be filled with people that didn’t cuss, didn’t drink, and may even have been baptized. Why?
