Why Trump may win the nomination but lose the election |
doyle |
Sadly, it seems he cannot help himself. It is obviously some kind of character flaw. Trump cannot seem to stop himself from making vicious personal attacks against his political opponents.
The latest, is taunting Jeb Bush because Jeb's Mother may campaign for him in South Carolina. Sadly, it seems none of the Bush family grasps that the nation does not want another Bush as President. So, this dear lady will go to SC and it won't help.
Trump's tease is that Jeb wants his "Mommie." Jeb is now so far down in the polls until there is no need to ridicule him personally.
Such personal attacks and taunting causes so much damage until even if Trump wins the nomination, those he has taunted and maligned, won't support him. Absolutely, take them to task on their policies but in reality, all of the other GOP candidates except for maybe Christie, are nice people.
Making personal attacks against them only hurts Trump. If he is to win the election, he must have their support.

He ain't supposed to pick on Barbara, I like her!
But I have to tell you, several times I was sure he had sunk himself, and he gained in the polls. He is real, and for some reason the establishment cannot comprehend it.
Jeb doesn't realize how silly he looks saying, Trump is not a serious candidate!
IS he electable? I honestly do not think any political observer can say for sure, this is DIFFERENT! _________________ Some facts but mostly just my opinion!

I think we better open our eyes and ears and realize that change for change's sake is what got us 8 years of destruction. This guy is trouble. I'm sorry I ever pulled for him. He's a jerk to insult Barbara Bush. Jeb doesn't have a chance and Trump could just ignore him and be bigger for it, but he doesn't seem to grasp the idea of being a gentleman at all. I'm really disgusted to see so many evangelicals not only look over this but defend it, usually in an ugly way too. I'm not only having doubts about Trump, but I'm starting to have questions about evangelicals in general. |

I started to respond - but before I assume what you meant, would you please explain you're closing remark. |
Do you mean what questions do I have? Simply put why would the majority of evangelicals (if the polls are to be believed) seem to completely ignore the huge moral questions in this case when they were so extremely important for the last two Democratic presidents? Our political two-faceness makes everything we say and do in our faith seem suspect. Do we put our party and politics above our convictions? If so, do we really have convictions? Are they grounded in God's word as much as we say they are, or are they grounded in feelings we have about who we are as Americans? I am including myself in the group, I admit that I was enjoying the big middle-finger to the establishment who has let us down time after time, but eventually I couldn't ignore it any more. But I seem to have fallen into the minority. I am not advocating for the election of a pastor, I voted for Romney (and would frankly prefer him over Trump, as much as I hate to say it since I think he was a fake conservative as well). Its one thing to vote for him when the choice is an all out baby-killing socialist, but right now when we have a choice? Couldn't we do better? |

I think I agree with Tom here. He did say it much better. YES we can do better, but we haven't. I hope for better. I pray for better. I despise to find myself voting for what I consider is the Lesser or two evils.
Yes I think Trump would be better than anything the other side will offer. I will vote for the one most likely to win on my side of the aisle. _________________ Some facts but mostly just my opinion!

My question was sincere. I respect how you think and wanted to know how you blended the thoughts concerning all of evangelicalism and then why.
I am not certain for whom I will vote at this point - but it could be Trump. That being the case, and the fact I am evangelical, I thought I might respond.
In the simplest of answers my faith does inform me about primary values concerning humanity and then who may best represent those values. My faith and theology also informs me to never make the mistake of laying the responsibility of the Kingdom at the feet of government - or any single person. There will never be a theocracy, Jesus seemed pretty clear on that in Acts 1, and that reality would certainly include the United States as well.
To answer your last question: "Yes," I think we could do better. In fact, that will be my final goal in voting - "to do better" than placing the leadership of this nation in the hands of a continuation of the current political ideology.
I'm not voting for someone to represent my faith - that is my job and the job of the church. I am voting for someone to represent the constitution. |
I really wish I had time for a longer answer, but its getting late. You realize of course I agree about not voting for a pastor as I already said. However, that does not end our obligation to consider morality into the equation, especially when it concerns a man that claims moral authority as Trump has (look at his claims over the last 12 months, there are many). But that is not the only issues I have with Donald Trump, you mention the Constitution and that is a PRIMARY area of concern as well. So far there has been nothing that Trump has said that makes me believe he understands the Constitution at all, much less that he has a conservative view of the supremacy of the Constitution in our society. Don't take my word for it, read the article in the National Review written by several of the leading conservatives in America. This is not a position that offers on-the-job-training in Constitution 101 (the current state of the union as prime evidence), and even during the first 10 months while I was still amused by him I would often chuckle and tell my kids that he reminds me of the junior-high kid running for class president promising Coke machines in every hallway and 1 hour recess. I really don't think he knows much more about the Constitution than he does two Corinthians.
All of that said, if he gets the nomination, and there is no one running against him in the general election with more conservative credentials, I'll, once again, do my duty. I only hope that we give more consideration to our choice over the next few weeks. |

Well written Tom. The job of the church is to be the church.
Who would've thought that tabloid and talk show billionaire Donald Trump would be leading the GOP right now? (Not me in a million years). If I was a gambling man last year, I would've have bet the farm on Bush being a major contender today. But obviously Jeb Bush is not even in the hunt.
Truthfully, we don't really know any of these guys, beyond what we've seen on tv, and mud slinging commercials. Sure, I like some of what Cruz says, but I don't really know him. Rubio is likable too. I absolutely love what he says about his faith. But do I really know Rubio? Nope. I'm pulling for him, but I don't really know him either. I do like a lot of what he said in the debates. I also really love how he responded to the atheist that questioned him. But, history has jaded me to believe that career politicians will say whatever they think is popular with their voting base at the time, and then vote on whatever will ensure that stay in power as long as possible!
At the end of the day, I don't think I trust Cruz. And call me surfeited, and even though I want to, I can't say I trust Rubio either. I think I do trust the character of Carson. But in no way do I trust that Dr. Carson would make a good president.
And then there is Trump. What makes Trump appealing (in spite of his numerous flaws) is that the modern day American feels like they know him. He's flamboyant. He's over the top. He speaks about himself in the third person. He is not eligible to sit on the floor of the General Council at the upcoming Assembly.
Does he say ignorant things some times? Check.
Does he make silly faces? Check.
Does he put his foot in his mouth? Check.
Do I know where he stands on almost every issue? Check.
Is his hair real? Who knows?
But I (along with a lot of other Americans) am tired of the status quo politician who blows with the wind. I think we are ready to take a look at someone who doesn't care to make a silly face and call a spade a spade.
I wouldn't want Trump to be my D.O. my Bishop, or my General Overseer. I think I would however like to see him renegotiate some deals with Iran and China. Not to mention taking a fresh and hard look at Social Security, the IRS and half a dozen other items without the Washington DC Cartel's intimidation. _________________ Beautiful weather we're having |

I like Trump for the republicans - and I think it will help the republican candidates in the future.
Here's why.
Many of us made mistakes when we were younger - things that don't represent the "real us" now.
Up until Trump - if a Republican had the smallest of skeleton in the closet - often they would not run - for fear it would become a campaign issue - and cloud the fact that we truly are a moral person now...and would govern morally.
Trump has proven that it should not hold that person back anymore - as he was totally immoral in his past - and we are hopeful for the future.
I also believe it is scriptural as well. God would rather us be hot or cold - not lukewarm. We have too often had lukewarm leaders that have never been able to change the status quo - and didn't do anyone a whole lot of good. God would rather we be cold(like Trump) than lukewarm. Because if you can turn a guy like that - he will be just as fervently hot - as he was icily cold.

Has there been any indication that he has changed in any way? Serious question since the only thing I've heard him say is that he has no need to ask God for forgiveness for anything. I don't think anyone here would give it a second thought if he said he'd repented and that was that. |

If Jentezen Franklin says Trump is okay, I'm going to have to question Jentezen Franklin's judgment. I might even be suspicious that he succumbed to a Python spirit. |
