What percentage of our churches do not pay any salary... |

of any kind to their pastors?
They work a job and pay for the privilege of pastoring.
What would be an accurate percentage in your opinion? _________________ Doctor of Bovinamodulation |

Rough, I don't know the percentage, but let the ole timer say a word here.
Them men/women what are bi-vocational pastors is to be commended even more than many full-time pastors. Each has its own pitfalls/privileges, but fellers what work a secular job 40+ hours a week, then gotta invest time in study for sermons, visit the sick, manage their family, etc., an all, OTCP has the greatest respect for em. |

I do not know the % but I would guess in the USA probably 30% fall into the category of having funds to pay utilities and upkeep and if they have a church payment struggle to meet it. The pastor in those cases as many of you well know then kicks in to help.
I will say amen to OTCP's comment.
As a pastor I did not work, but we had no debts and no insurance of anykind.after utilities were paid we had around $20-25 a week. I once went to the bank and borrowed $60 for 6 months to get my car fixed. Payments were $20.75 a month. Funny thing we were as happy as pigs in mud.
The LWWB baked them and I sold fried pies every week to keep the church going. WE were blessed to never need any insurance.
That is not a sob story, we had a ball and worshiped God. Many pastors have done MUCH MUCH MUCH more than I ever did. Plus I quit after about 6 years. But it had NOTHING to do with finances or size of the church. Quitting was ME! _________________ Some facts but mostly just my opinion!

| Without doing a survey of a significant number of our churches, it would be hard to say. Looking at the stats in the state paper (which unfortunately, some states no longer publish), one perhaps might be able to make a good guess on how many churches are basically on life support, as it were. However, it appears from these same stats that a significant number of our churches no longer send in an accurate Tithe of Tithe, or else they perhaps don't teach tithing strongly at all. When you see a church that reports averaging 500 in Sunday am attendance, but only reports $2000 total tithes for that same period, obviously, something's just not right. |

Traveling around 20 years ago over the USA it was interesting and very informative to read state papers. Most churches had :
The Lighted Pathway
The Evangel
State paper
prominent in the lobby or foyer. I miss the state papers
