 Massive Flooding in NC |

There is massive flooding and devastation in eastern NC due to Hurricane Matthew. Hope Mills, Fayetteville, Lumberton, Pinetops, and Goldsboro (as well as the coast) have been hit pretty hard.
We here in the Greenville/Washington/Tarboro area are waiting for the Tar River to crest Wednesday or Thursday to see how bad it's going to be here. Several roads and bridges are closed, making it difficult to get across town to work or somewhere else we need to be. Many homes have already been lost, and many of the same folks here lost their homes to Floyd 17 years ago. The parallels are eerily similar.
We evacuated on Sunday to a motel. My 89 year old mother in law lives with us, so we don't feel we can really ask anyone to take us in. We are waiting it out and hoping we can go home a day or so after the river crests. Yesterday the water was 3-4 feet from getting inside our house, due to a nearby creek. The water went down quite a bit today, but we still have to see what will happen when the river crests. (There are pics on my Facebook page.) We are trusting God to make a way for us and protect our property. We lost our home to Floyd in '99 and have no desire to repeat that chapter of our lives.
I know of at least two COG pastors whose homes have been affected. Operation Compassion and other benevolence groups in ENC are in place in the Fayetteville area and will likely come here once things settle down.
Please remember the people and churches in ENC as we go through this time of devastation and loss. It is especially traumatic for those who lost their homes in Floyd. The waiting and uncertainty is unnerving. We covet your prayers...

Thanks for the report Carolyn. we do not have cable and the news is scarce here. We were blessed with minor damage since Matthew did not come ashore in Daytona. Prayers for you guys.

Thanks, Cojak. ENC is in really bad shape. The hospital in Robeson Co lost power today. & they had to evacuate the patients. The Tar River here still has not crested. Now they are saying Friday at 1am. The water has almost completely receded from our house, so hopefully any flooding from the river crest should be minimal. There are lots of hurting people, though. Tarboro and Princeville are being hit hard again.
Interesting how little interest people have in a disaster such as this. Guess I should have put "Trump" in the subject line.

We made it home tonight, thank the Lord! As far as we can tell, there is no damage. Praise God!
Not everyone has been so blessed. Many here have lost their homes and businesses, though all of our church people seem to be OK. Flooding in Kinston is really bad, and I've heard that they are supposed to get about 4 more feet of water in flooding. Fayetteville and Lumberton are in really bad shape. Robeson County, one of the poorest areas in the state, has been hit especially hard.
Please continue to remember the folks here in ENC and if you can give towards helping them, there are many, many people who have been devastated.
