Sanctification occurs after baptism. I don't agree but there it is.
Btw you are a never ending source of wit and jovality. |

In Wesley's view, one was initially sanctified in regeneration, when the Spirit gives birth from above, coming to live within the heart of the new believer. Entire sanctification, a la 1 Thess 5:23-24, for instance, is something all believers should be seeking in this life. As Hebrews 6:1 says to believers, "let us go on unto perfection..."
Unfortunately, this crucial doctrinal distinction in Wesley's theology has not always been faithfully passed down and represented in the Holiness movement. I have known several COG folks over the years who have adamantly insisted that there is such a thing as an unsanctified Christian, that a believer may simply be saved but not holy/sanctified at all yet. If true, that would mean that without holiness/sanctification some shall see God, and that the impure in heart will see God, which of course would be quite contrary to Scripture.

When God says we are ... |
Mat |
When God says we are ... this Divine declaration is decisive, not in degree or over long duration, rather it is the "double cure" for both sins we are doomed by and the sin nature that dominates us. Now how we live it out, there's the "daily death" we all must dedicate ourselves to.

I think he was pulling your chains. You might want to do a little research on the "ordus salutis" he referenced. Unless I miss read his post. |

Than again, I did not answer/point to any specific moment in the "ordus salutus" in which one is sanctified. I just wanted to write something that had a lot of "d" words in it that reflected my belief that sanctification, in regards to God's application to the repentant is sovereign and instantaneous.

I SHOULD have responded thusly, "you are a never ending font of ingenii and hilaritas", if my Latin memory serves me. |
