What do you expect at church tomorrow?

I am planning on visiting another church tomorrow. As I was thinking about it I realized, I know what to expect at our church, but not what to expect at another church.

1st Assembly of God in our town just pulled out of the AG. Not sure what they are planning, but I may be there tomorrow.

The pastor has been a friend for over 40 years and has pastored that church for over 30 years.

I spoke to the pastor and decided not to visit.

He teaches progressive Salvation. He was asked, then who will go to heaven and he replied, "I'm not sure I am going". He is convinced most "Christians" are not saved.

I would hate to know I was living under such fear.

He has no degrees of any kind. To my knowledge he has a High School diploma and no more.

However he is one of the smartest people I know. How he can be so smart and not know the truth is beside me.

My Daddy would say, he is to smart for his own good.

This man fast at least one day per week and has done so for many years. For years he fasted one meal every day. He is one of the most dedicated Christians I have ever met.

the AG teaches

A form of Arminianism. We believe in instantaneous and progressive sanctification. At salvation we are sanctified and we grow in grace with Him daily. We do not teach sanctification as a second work of grace as the COG did/does? We believe Christians can and will sin after salvation but we do not teach "infernal inaecurity". If your friend left it was probably over doctrine. Not sure what you were saying exactly though about the pastors beliefs.

I expect to worship God. I'm not looking for God to do anything more than pour His Word into me, and send me out to witness to those around me.

If God does something special for me, I'll of course receive it, but I'm there simply to worship Him.

How can you be friends with this Pastor for 40 years and not already know this?

Also, what is the definition of "progressive salvation" in your mind that is causing you so much grief?

I said I know what to expect at our church today.

I was surprised. Pastor was on fire this morning, much more than usual. Not that he is a dry preacher but much more fired up this morning than usual.

Enjoyed the service very much.

I saw more tears flowing than I think I have seen before. (Tears to me is an indication of a good service).

I know some wise guy will say, "you must enjoy funerals".

I mean tears of joy not tears of sorrow.

As usually happens, I went to worship God, and I left blessed and encouraged, and filled up! We had our children's program, which was really short. Before that, God really touched me in worship. We had a guest speaker today. He spoke on how God uses the enemy's attacks against us to bring strength and sweetness out of us. With all I've endured the past year, I needed that.

Our pastor is a whack job, has four honorary doctorates, two purchased ones and talks too long for my interest to stay engaged. All that and I still never miss even one of his sermons. I have to be there because I never know what he might say that he will have to either run from or defend.
