Rev. Larry Timmerman, a leader in several capacities with the Church of God, passed away Thursday, March 30, 2023, following a lengthy illness. He was 83.
Timmerman was a former administrative bishop in several states and regions, including Southern Ohio (1980-1984), Rocky Mountain (1992-1994), Florida-Tampa (1994-1998), and Alabama (2006-2008). In 1998 he was elected to the post of Assistant Director of Evangelism and Home Missions and served as director from 2002-2006. Two years later in 2008 he was elected to a second term as Assistant Director of Evangelism and Home Missions, serving until 2012. He also served as a member of the International Executive Council from 1994-1998 and again from 2006-2008.
A graduate of Lee University, Timmerman married his wife, Jan, and was licensed in the Church of God in 1961. He accepted his first pastorate in Kalamazoo, Michigan in 1962. He then served the next five years as state youth and Christian education director in Mississippi (1966-1970) and Pennsylvania (1970-1971). In 1973, Timmerman accepted the pastorate of the Church of God in Lawrenceville, Ga., and served there for seven years, returning for a second tenure from 1984-1989. His final pastorate was at Princeton Pike in Ohio from 1989-1992.
Throughout his ministry, Larry Timmerman was a frequent speaker at camp meetings, prayer conferences and evangelistic crusades. He served on the Evangelism Board for eight years and was the author of Spirit of Growth.
Larry and Jan Timmerman are the parents of two children, Debbie Sulcer and Larry, Jr, and they have three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
“Larry Timmerman set the example of a humble and effective leader in the Church of God,” stated General Overseer Tim Hill. “He will be remembered for his powerful evangelistic messages and the reach of his leadership across the many capacities he filled.”
Funeral arrangements are being finalized by the Rush Funeral Home in Cleveland, Tennessee. |

Of all the state overseers of Florida, he was one of two that was always personable to me (a nobody) - always remembered my name, etc...
(John Nichols was the other)
I know he has a great reward in heaven. _________________ Whether you like it or not, learn to love it, because its the best thing going today! |

I had the privilege of meeting Larry at a revival he was conducting shortly after I moved to Florida several years ago. I remember him as personable and kind. _________________ “Hell will be filled with people that didn’t cuss, didn’t drink, and may even have been baptized. Why? Amen to all these comments. His personal qualities are missing today in so many ways. I remember him as a true Christian and a real man.
YES he will be missed.... _________________ Some facts but mostly just my opinion!

Is there a link to the funeral service? I wasn't able to be there or watch live, but would like to see it if it's available. |
