Is Porn viewing a sin? (L) |
Nature Boy Florida |
Don't go crazy on me yet. NBF hasn't lost his mind.
But - after reading the following article - and seeing the percentages of men and women viewing porn...Is it time the church redefined whether it is a sin or not?
The reason I ask - didn't we redefine whether a divorce is sin once it became widespread in the church?
Didn't we redefine whether drinking alcohol is a sin once it became widespread in the church?
Isn't it time someone found a loophole for porn by now?
Check out this quote from the article:
Quote: | The morality question found that the older the people are, the more immoral they view porn. But for teens, it amounts to a shoulder shrug. Consider: Most teens believe that not recycling garbage is more of a moral crime than porn, said the study.
It explained, "32 percent say viewing porn is 'usually or always wrong' compared to 56 percent who say not recycling is 'usually or always wrong."

What do you think?

Matthew 5:27-28
"You have heard that it was said, 'YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT ADULTERY'; but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
I know in the missional churches of today that you're not allowed to call anything sin because you wouldn't want to offend people who are seeking God but Jesus said this. What does this mean? It means porn certainly is sin along with lesser things. In my opinion Victoria's Secret tv is sin to according to this verse. |

Not always good! I knew a pastor many years ago that developed ED in his 50's. According to him his Dr recommended the 3 minute peep shows. I don't remember what they were called but they were at the XXX stores before the internet. When visiting Charlotte for State Council meetings he would drop by the XXX stores after the council meetings to give his body a boost.
I think it helped his ED, but with the advent of the internet, he could get more than the 3 minutes. So he did.
I wonder how many Doctors would recommend that.
But of course it will not be brought up at the GA for 15-20 years, I have seen some movies that bordered on Porn and one would not be 'churched' for going. _________________ Some facts but mostly just my opinion!

I suppose if one could do it without committing adultery in their heart, it might not be sinful in that case. Kind of like gambling with no desire to be rich. |

NBF, were you going to post a link (and not just a quote)?
That's the only reason I clicked on the thread. |

Interesting.
For medicinal purposes only.
To paraphrase Paul, "A little porn for thy ______ sake". _________________ Whether you like it or not, learn to love it, because its the best thing going today! |

Hopefully not many. Researchers know now that regular porn viewing causes changes in brain chemistry that cause, rather than help, ED and sexual dysfunction.
I agree with what you said about some movies. As a man, sexual sin is always "lying at the door" and proper precautions must always be taken to make sure it stays there. I find myself having to look away from the screen when my wife and I are watching both TV and movies, and sometimes like you said it is more than a quick scene and we have to turn the movie off. Everything is just so unnecessarily sexual. |

I've learned that the older I get it seems like things that once were sin are not sin now or at least are questioned heavily by church leaders.
I recently read where a Doctor who came out against homosexuality for all the medical issues this life style causes was fired from his job by a prominent hospital.
Galatians 5:9 This false teaching is like a little yeast that spreads through the whole batch of dough!
A little porn leads to a lot of porn. There is an insatiable appetite in us for sin and the more we feed that appetite the more we want it. We have to crucify the flesh not strengthen it. |
