In 1952 I had never met nor seen a Catholic, but I knew they were wrong!

Post In 1952 I had never met nor seen a Catholic, but I knew they were wrong! Cojak
I lived in the Mountains of NC at that time and I thought the song, "I saw mama Kissing Santa Claus" was a funny song. But in 1952 the Catholic Church banned the song as ungodly.

Seems ALL BELIEFS and denominations become more liberal as time goes on. My daddy was sure that 'Rock around the Clock' was gonna send me (and a lotta kids) to hell! Embarassed I reckon it coulda Shocked Embarassed

Wonder what your dad would think of todays rap lyrics full of cussing , killing and disrespect? These would make rock around the Clock look like a gospel song. Hon. Dr. in Acts-celeratology

except that "Rock" was a cultural word for something much different than the word "music" back then. Wink

But to the OP, I'd rather have a good Catholic as president ANY DAY than a Muslim, or even a nominal Presbyterian

Protestants take some of their tradition from the good Catholic bretheren. If you go back and study much church history you would not think highly of either. After studying church history you would surely want separation of church and state. Acts Enthusiast

The RCC venerate saints like St. Nicholas. So the song was probably seen as offensive for that reason.

Certainly, by mega amounts!

I even think maybe Baptists, some Methodists and a few Presbyterians might make it to heaven Wink

Since then I have met many Catholics, Some I have no doubt are Christians, probably better suited than I.

I have also noticed that the COG has changed, nearly an about face on many stands, some even don't think investing in stocks and bonds is a sin, and it is accepted. I hear even some preachers go to the show now.

Of course most of that is tongue in cheek although the changes since 1952 in my thinking and our denominations. Many are for the better. JMHO. Embarassed

Glad you have changed Cojak. If we are always seeking truth we will find it and change will be always in the making. We can only learn from others what they have been taught. Sometimes we need to get outside of our church, area, comfort zone and we are pleasantly surprised about what truth we may find.

I have been in numerous denominations and just recently visited a messianic jewish congregation. I am learning a lot of new biblical views. Some of these new views will replace my old thinking. Great to still be learning at my age.

There is no such thing in our Constitution as "separation of church and state" as the term is used and applied today. It is no more than a liberal tool used as a weapon against Christianity. I have studied church history and the role the Roman Catholic church has played in it. In control of both religion and the government, they spread devastation and misery across Europe. But I could never reach the conclusion that "separation of church and state" as used by the libs and the media today is desirable or should even be tolerated.
