YOU OWN EVERYTHING
"Now I say, as long as the heir is a child, he does not differ at all from a slave although he is owner of everything," Gal 4:1
The slave owns nothing.
The heir is the "owner of everything".
We are heirs of God.
We have inherited the Kingdom of God.
"but he is under guardians and managers until the date set by the father. So also we, while we were children, were held in bondage under the elemental things of the world." Gal 4:2,3
But as long as we stay in bondage under "the elemental things of the world" (the Law-Col 2:20-22), we won't "differ at all from a slave". If you feel like you don't "differ at all" from the one who owns nothing, maybe your still under the tutor, the guardians and managers. Maybe Hagar is still in the house, mothering you. Maybe you need to be weaned from her milk and get on the meat.
"This is allegorically speaking, for these women are two covenants: one proceeding from Mount Sinai bearing children who are to be slaves; she is Hagar. Now this Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia and corresponds to the present Jerusalem, for she is in slavery with her children. But the Jerusalem above is free; she is our mother." Gal 4:24-26
Hagar is Mt. Sinai, the old covenant, the Law. She gives birth to slaves.
"But as at that time he who was born according to the flesh persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, so it is now also. But what does the Scripture say? Cast out the bondwoman and her son, For the son of the bondwoman shall not be an heir with the son of the free woman." Gal 4:29,30
When did Ishmael persecute Isaac?
When was the command given to cast out Hagar?
On the day Isaac was weaned from the milk (Gen 21:8,9).
"For everyone who partakes only of milk is not accustomed to the word of righteousness, for he is an infant." Heb 5:13
Our "word of righteousness" is "the righteous man shall live by faith".
"Now that no one is justified by the Law before God is evident; for, The righteous man shall live by faith." Gal 3:11
When we finally come off the milk of infancy where you can't tell the difference between a slave and a Son, off trying to be justified by works of the Law, off the message of righteousness, blessing and life "according to the flesh", you'll discover that you own everything - that it pleases Him to freely give you the kingdom.
Once the bondwoman, Mt. Sinai, the Law is "cast out", you'll know the difference between a slave and a son-between those "born according to the flesh" that those "born according to the Spirit"-between those who inherit "everything" and those who "shall not be an heir."
We are heirs of God. We are the owners of everything.
We are not born of Hagar, of Law, "according to the flesh", according to our ability to keep religious rules.
We are born of Sarah, of freedom, "according to the Spirit", according to God's ability to keep His promise. _________________ I'm not saved because I'm good. I'm saved because He's good!
