Dancing in the Spirit - Last GA service ending |
Carolyn Smith |
I was hoping this was a Youtube video but it's from Facebook, so unless you have FB you probably can't see it. But if you haven't seen anything from the GA, this is a moment you shouldn't miss.
4 ministers were asked to minister 10 minutes each in the final service. The last one was Jonathon Ziegler, a bishop who pastors National COG in Ft. Washington, MD, who formerly mostly evangelized, I think. He has come to our convention here locally several times and he is a fireball. At the end of his sermon, he challenged everyone to dance in the Spirit, like we Pentecostals have been doing for 126 years. Paula Hill immediately began to dance before the Lord with Tim Hill right with her. It was an awesome moment and the place went crazy!

I was sitting in the family section of the deceased family ministers, which was next to the Executive Council seating. It was the Holy Ghost that flipped the switch. I watch as the General Overseer and his wife began to dance before the Lord and then as a wave hit the next two rows. I watched as two members of the Executive Committee fell out under the Spirit. I watched as several members of the Council of 18 shouted all over the altars. I watched as a wave of the Spirit moved throughout the room and the presence of God rested upon the room. I have been going to General Assemblies for 45 years and I have never experienced a service like we had on Friday night. As much as some would like to believe that the Church of God has lost the fire of Pentecost, I am glad to say that it was flaming high on Friday night! |

Thanks for that front row observation, Mr. Sippi. I have not heard anyone share that.
We have been having regular visitations of the Spirit like this in my home church lately. The Spirit is moving! _________________ "More of Him...less of me."

you're better than this. I know you have issues with the COG, but please don't become that guy. The system might be imperfect but that's never stopped God from moving. |

From the bitterness that I have seen from this dude through the years, I really don’t think he is bigger than this. I don’t know this poster from Adam, but I know that he is one more bitter individual! |

"he challenged everyone to dance in the Spirit, like we Pentecostals have been doing for 126 years. Paula Hill immediately began to dance before the Lord with Tim Hill right with her. It was an awesome moment and the place went crazy!"
My experience has been a spontaneous move or outpouring of the Holy Spirit.
Not a response to a challenge or instruction. _________________ Charles A. Hutchins

David danced before the Lord with all his might. It doesn't say he was moved by the Spirit. It was a decision he made to praise the Lord with everything he had.
I believe both instances are acceptable ways to praise the Lord...when a person is moved by the Spirit, as well as when a person dances spontaneously by choice. Or when a person is so overcome with a desire to praise Him, they begin to dance before Him.
I think it is also a cultural thing. Our multicultural church has a Black pastor, and dancing often breaks out among our people as we worship the Lord.
I am more of a "dance when the Spirit moves you" person but I'm not offended by those who choose to dance before the Lord. I believe it all lines up with the Word...and that's what's important.
Wouldn't it be a blessing if more people were willing to dance before the Lord and give Him a praise? _________________ "More of Him...less of me."

So you would categorize the GA event as "dancing in the flesh".
Not as a negative connotation, but as a definition.
Dancing in response to a challenge. _________________ Charles A. Hutchins

No, you would define it that way. I don't recall seeing that in scripture. Isn't that supposed to be the basis of everything we do? I just gave you my opinion.
Doesn't the Word say "Let everything that has breath praise the Lord"?
I believe as we open ourselves to the Spirit to praise Him, He meets us there and empowers us.
Our brother gave an eyewitness account of the Spirit falling on our leaders and still you criticize it? _________________ "More of Him...less of me."

While I believe in and have experienced spontaneous dancing in the Spirit like David dancing before the Lord with all his might, I must admit it appears to also be a direct command in Scripture to dance unto the Lord.
Ps. 150:4 Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs.

I watched the video.
He did NOT instruct nor challenge folks to dance on command.
He invited folks to praise the Lord.
Thanks. _________________ Charles A. Hutchins

But if a preacher did ask people to dance - is that any different than a preacher asking for everyone to praise the Lord - or let's all pray.
Aren't they all things that we are asked to do by the scriptures?
Now, asking how many can give $500 this morning - that isn't necessarily scriptural - unless you ask if they can give that amount cheerfully. _________________ Whether you like it or not, learn to love it, because its the best thing going today! |
