Post What does aiden mean in the song "When They Ring Those Golden Bells"? bonnie knox
I was just trying to wind down by playing a word game on the internet. I put the word "aiden" in, but that was not accepted. Twisted Evil I knew I had heard that word somewhere besides a friend's granddaughter's name. It came back to me that it is in the song "When They Ring Those Golden Bells" on p. 294 in the red back hymnal: "...Never more with anguish laden, we shall reach that lovely aiden..."
The internet is not helping me much with the definition of "aiden." Any of you folks know what the word means?

(And extra credit if you know what supernal means, lol.)

I found three different sites that have "Eden" where you have "aiden."

http://www.newreleasetoday.com/lyricsdetail.php?lyrics_id=76240

http://cyberhymnal.org/htm/w/h/e/whenthey.htm

As a baby name, "Aiden" means "little fiery one," but I don't think that will fit.

Perhaps OTCP was writing those lyrics for the Red Back... Laughing

It's time like these that I miss my father-in-law. I guarantee he would have known. He was Google before Google. 😀 Acts-pert Poster

Carolyn, I kinda glanced around at a few lyrics on the web before I consulted the SOURCE. On the web, you find all kinds of mondegreens. Lyricsmode was as far out as this: "Never more with anguish laidin' we shall reach that lovely aimin'." That was so ridiculous, I went to the living room and fetched the REAL REDBACK, copyright 1951, by Tennessee Music and Printing Company.
It has "ai-den," separated like that where you sing two different notes. I thought from the context it must mean Eden, haven, or heaven, but I really don't know why it is spelled "aiden" in my hymnal.
I guess they had to make it rhyme, lol.

You are right about that.

I took two classes with the guy - and both of them - he usually had a new word he used on us each day in the classroom.

That was before web phones - so unless one of us knew it - we had to look it up after class in a dictionary. He sometimes told us what it meant - sometimes not.

One I never forgot was "commodious". For some reason, it didn't mean what I thought. Laughing

Well, it's hardly a stretch to associate commodious with comfort if you think about it. (Just a tip of the hat to ole MTWC, there, lol.) [Insert Acts Pun Here]

I heard him only once in Bible Study in a Missouri CAmp meeting. But I was so impressed, it has lasted a lifetime. I think you are correct, Eddie. the Dude was GOOD! Cool
