Post two words for "man" in the Greek in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1??? bonnie knox

But the Bible does teach that the bishop should be 'a man'-- using two different words for 'man' in two passages--a man with one wife/woman.

The New Living Translation says "This is a trustworthy saying: 'If someone aspires to be a church leader,[a] he desires an honorable position.' 2 So a church leader must be a man whose life is above reproach. He must be faithful to his wife.

Who thinks the inclusion of the phrase "must be a man" is a faithful translation of the Greek?

The words translated 'husband' in a lot of translations in I Timothy 3 and Titus 1 in relation to the requirements for a bishop.

Honestly, I don't care for this type of translation. It brings out that one aspect of that one word, but it seems rather wordy and a bit loose. It takes the 'man' part out of one phrase and puts it in another.

Post 2 distinct words or 2 instances of 1 word? bonnie knox
Link, are you referring to the word "aner"? What other word are you referring to?
Or are you referring to two occurences of one word?

When you said "...using two different words for 'man' in two passages--a man with one wife/woman...." I thought you meant two distinct words.
