Sad, very sad. Hopefully the situation was discovered early enough that no irreparable damage was done. God is good.

What a testimony though, to grow a church to that size, that part is wonderful.

But is pastoring that size church and congregation isolating a pastor from real life? Most pastors know the enjoyment of fellowship with 'an average' of your church. It seems that would be nearly impossible with a church that size.

It seems we have lost TOO many mega church pastors in all denominations. Embarassed

Praying for Pastor Noble and his family. I know He is passionate about people coming into the kingdom. But once again we are reminded that we are all vulnerable to temptation and can easily begin to find comfort in things other than Christ.

I certainly appreciate the leaders of the church taking a stand and not hiding this. Sin's power is weakened significantly when brought into the light. Believing for healing and restoration for Perry, his family and the church!

Part of Perry's note:

Quote:
"However, in my obsession to do everything possible to reach 100,000 and beyond, it has come at a personal cost in my own life and created a strain on my marriage. In my opinion, the Bible does not prohibit the use of alcohol, but it does prohibit drunkenness and intoxication. I've never had a problem drinking alcohol socially, but in the past year or so I've let myself slide into, in my opinion, the overuse of alcohol.

Wouldn't he have been better off not partaking of any alcohol...that way he couldn't "slide" into overusing it?

As I have said many times on this forum - we don't know which of us would have a real penchant for relying on alcohol when the going gets tough. Why even open the door to something that may eventually take everything from you - your pulpit and your marriage.

My thoughts exactly, if you never start it, it can't become a problem.

Thankfully my parents never drank or smoked, none of us 8 children did either.

Actually - it seems to be said quite often on Acts.

It's sad, but this might be the best thing for him. His relationship with God is more important than his ministry. As a former alcoholic, I see a pattern with Perry that's disturbing. Years ago, someone posted a sermon (here on Acts) that he preached about alcohol. Basically, it was a sermon on moderate consumption. His public statement is telling as well. He is still in denial.

Do I believe the bible prohibits alcohol explicitly ? No. But when you've just been fired for being an alcoholic (believe me, you can rest assured this was not an isolated incident ), the last thing you need to do is celebrate your Christian liberty to drink. I've been there. He hasn't come to reality yet.

Thanks for your insight.

Great point that backs up my beliefs. Sin comes in when you abuse most anything.

If I remember correctly, Gwen Shamblin was essentially saying you can't go to heaven if you're fat.
