How many sins does the Lord forgive? |
JLarry |
Ps. 103:2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:
3 Who forgiveth [b]ALL thine iniquities;
If He forgives ALL how many do I have left.
But wait there is more.
who healeth ALL thy diseases;
How can anyone argue with this.
Oh, but J Larry you don't understand. I think I can understand this Scripture. I think our problem is simply that we try to explain the Bible rather than believe it. _________________ Recorded Sermons @ www.pastorwiley.com

It is not a question as to whether God forgives all, though as we know, Jesus himself speaks of an unpardonable sin, and 1 John speaks of sin unto death, for which we should not even pray for someone who commits that. The question is, in light of all of Scripture, what are the conditions God gives for forgiveness, or are we automatically 'pre-forgiven' before we sin, or is repentance and confession necessary for forgiveness of each sin?
Unless one is a universalist, believing everyone will be saved in the end, one must recognize the conditions of salvation as revealed in Scripture. |

I certainly believe in repentance. As for every sin. At times we sin and do not even recognize the sin. I believe it would be good to ask the Lord to forgive us of all our sins.
I am a strong believer in Grace. But I do not believe we are covered for our pas present and future sins through one prayer. _________________ Recorded Sermons @ www.pastorwiley.com

Fortunately only God knows our hearts.
Even Peter physically & verbally denied his Savior & was ready to go back to his original occupation ...but Jesus knew his heart & said He could use this kind of person to build His church upon.
God knows our weaknesses & our lack of keeping commitments.
He doesn't excuse a lifestyle of sin but He doesn't use a dry erase on the book of life where our names are recorded either.
I agree with QW on the sin of blasphemy but I also know that in a moment of weakness a person who merely speaks, verbally blasphemes, may or may not really believe in their heart what they have spoken. I believe God knows our hearts so well that He can tell when we have given ourselves over to that magistrate of hell.
I truly believe in repentance & to repent as often as one feels they have committed an offense.
As a friend of mine once preached, 'if you have to ride the altar of forgiveness for the rest of your life then by all means do it!'

Our lives in Christ aren't on the razor's edge where we constantly have to wonder if we've confessed all our sin or sincerely vowed to do better.
All our sin was dealt with by one sacrifice that took away the sin of the whole world once and for all. Jesus isn't forgiving you or putting your sin away one apology at a time. He sits at rest in the joy that was set before Him, the pleasure of His Father. We sit right there with Him (Eph 2:4-10)
Our faith accesses this saving grace, brought us into the kingdom, this redemption and the forgiveness of sins.
Col 1:13 For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
Forgiveness isn't something we are getting. It's something "we have".
The sin that won't be forgiven is unbelief, rejecting the Spirit of grace as He convicts the world of unbelief and draws you to faith.
No one Jesus ever forgave of sins (see Mark 2, Luke 7, John 8 and Luke 23) ever asked for forgiveness, confessed their sin, apologized or promised to do better...all who received forgiveness believed.
Our sins are gone (Jn 1:29; Heb 9:26). They were taken away once and for all by the sacrifice of Jesus. Our death and judgment occurred at the cross (Jn 12:31,32; Jn 5:24; 2 Cor 5:14-21). When we hear and believe this Truth, the law of the Spirit of life in Christ is born in us and frees us from condemnation, sin and death - we are born again of this Word, this incorruptible Seed.
His resurrection means our faith has worth and we are no longer in our sins.
1 Cor 15:17 and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins.
As for 1 Jn 1:9, it was written to those who had not received forgiveness, to those who were unrighteous. It was written to proclaim "eternal life" those who were not in fellowship with John, the Father or the Son.
1 Jn 1:2 and the life was manifested, and we have seen and testify and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was manifested to us— 3 what we have seen and heard we proclaim to you also, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ.
Nowhere in the life and ministry of Jesus, the entire book of Acts and all the writings of Paul was anyone required, as a condition of forgiveness, to confess their sins, apologize or promise to do better. They were all required to come to faith in Christ.
This "repentance" or "metanoia" or change of thinking toward faith in God meant different things to different audiences. To Hebrews, it meant abandoning reliance on dead works and moving to faith in God. To Romans, it meant abandoning faith in Caesar and confessing Jesus as Lord. To gnostics, it meant abandoning their view of sin and agreeing with God's view of sin. Everyone has different strongholds of wrong thinking to deal with, different speculations about God, different thoughts that exalt themselves against the knowledge of Him...but ultimately, faith comes when our thoughts are captivated by His obedience. _________________ I'm not saved because I'm good. If the passage above is to be interpreted as saying that God heals all of our diseases (i.e., physical sickness, malady, pain, discomfort, etc.) and all one need do is appropriate it by faith, how is that working for everyone? Ever git a runny nose? Ever have a headache? Is ya tummy ever in turmoil? |
